Holy Crow the leaves are bad this year !!

We have had a strange fall this year weather wise and the leaves are taking forever to drop. I have raked three times this fall and still at least 25% are left on the tree. We haven't had a hard rain with wind to finish them off, I raked my ass off for the last two days, O.K. UNCLE I give up !

 

I live in Florida but I went to Detroit last weekend for a Jaguars away game. I couldn't believe the amount of leaves on the ground. I laughed at my buddy and told him we got about 6-8 inches of leaf fall over night. I made a leaf angel in his yard just to piss him off.

We raked up about 10 bags last weekend. It's raining and windy here tonight, so we'll be raking tomorrow - probably about 20 more bags. We'll sleep well......

Raking is getting old. I have a small yard with a bunch of trees. Even if I rake my leaves, the wind blows all the leaves from my neighbors who don't rake into my yard. I have been thinking about getting a leaf vacuum from sears. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_07177012000P Work seems less like work with new power equipment. Just hard to spend 400 bucks on a seasonal tool.

I agree. I've been thinking about getting a leaf blower, but I can't see spending the money to use it once a year. Raking gets me some exercise, besides, I still have to bag them.

Yeah, my neighbor waits until the following spring to clean up their yard, so I have to deal with their leaves too. The year I bought my house I was gunho and decided to bag my leaves. Ended up with over 300 bags. The trash company wouldn't take them, so I had to make many, many trips to the dump that year.

I used to use those little handheld blowers, but I would burn up two or three every year. I wised up and bought a backpack leaf blower, followed by a tow behind yard vacuum. I've got 2 acres of land, with about 50-60 trees, mostly oaks, maples and poplars.

 

all you guys are knockin' having to pick up leaves...AT LEAST YOU HAVE A CHANGE OF SEASON.

I'd love to have to rake leaves. And shovel snow.

beats the hell out of baking in 120degree heat all day, so hot you cant get in you truck and touch anything.

 

There is an Oak Tree in the yard next to my pool. This damn tree dumps for 3/4 of the year. I'll clean my pool and as I'm standing there the tree will start dropping on me. I HATE that tree! I cleaned my pool last week and the bottom of my pool is full of leaves again. I'm going crazy!

Your words are hurtful and wrong, I demand an explanation and a heart felt " Yes Concrete jedi I am sorry " living in Arizona, where it may be hot but you cant hear the rust on your truck.

 

My in-laws lives in Mt Carmel, Il. All they have to do is rake the leaves to the curb and the city comes by for the pick up...no bagging at all.

 

Cut'em down! That's how I solved my leaf problem.

 

heres what my backyard usually looks like. When I first moved in the previous owner did no raking (in the pics). It promptly snowed 12" the day after I moved in so I had to wait until the snow melted so I could rake them up. What a PITA.

I started mulching them with the lawnmower now, much easier. I tried the blower/vac thing and it filed up a bag in about 2 minutes. I tried bagging the leaves with the lawnmower and it filed up after one pass. I just mulch/recycle, much easier.

Agreed. I never remember it taking this long for all of the leaves to come down. The past 2 days we had a lot of rain and it was windy so hopefully most of them are down now. I generally rake them all into a giant tarp and take them down to my garden, then next Spring I'll just grind them up with the rototiller. It is a pain when your neighbors don't rake but I haven't found a cure for that one yet.

 

atleast you can get in your truck to got to work...when its 120, you cant even get in it or touch anything.

I'd take snow anyday man. I'd show you pictures of what its like when its 120 out, but they'd be all of the same thing...everyone milling around the inside of the house because its so damn hot outside no one wants to do anything.
