I've never heard of a casino making you pay to get into the place. If you come up on one of those , forget them and dont even bother!! If you want the true Vegas experience, you will want to stay around the strip (Las Vegas Blvd). Have you decided on where you want to stay? What kind of gambling do you want to try, slots, tables?

I've never been charged to get in the door. They are all good to gamble at. Some of the most fun is the people watching. The old downtown is worth a trip as well.

A grand will be plenty to gamble with if you do it right, or you could run out in an hour. I've never lost more than $200 in Vegas (just because i won't let myself). Do some research on the games you want to play. Don't be afraid to ask the dealers questions. Most are very helpful.

even though Im not old enough to gamble I go to Vegas all the time, I've never heard of casinos charging to just go in. nor have i seen it myself. but the advice i would give would be to stay on the strip to gamble, go to MGM, New York New York, and Ceasars Palace. those 3 are the ones my parents gamble at most and do seem to be most popular!

Casinos don't charge you to get in the door. They want your money. They don't even charge you for drinks. (but tip your server)

Play what you're comfortable with. My friends and I sat down at the Venetian a couple years ago and hated it. We walked over to the Frontier and almost all of us came away up.

Trick: If you want to play $5/hand, but they only have $20 tables, talk to the pit boss. We did this at the Venetian during the day, when there were plenty of open tables.

Me: Sir, we'd like to play some blackjack, but we don't see any $5 tables.

Pit Boss: Sorry, all of our tables are $20.

Me: Well, my friends and I would like to learn how to play, but we aren't comfortable at $20/hand. Can you tell me of a casino nearby which offers $5 hands?

Pit Boss: Tell you what, you and your friends can play for $5 a hand right at this table (takes us to an empty table)

Casinos don't make money by having you play somewhere else. If they have an open table, they'll make sure your drop your coin in their place.

Great advice ^

PH is a great place to throw down some money and typically has a lot of eye candy walking around. Of course in the spring you'll get this at any of the casinos.

no way, u can walk in and out of any casino.. they want you to enter their casino. if u plan and gambling a lot in my opinion you should join one of the players clubs (free). when you get home from your trip you should eventually receive some vouchers for some free stuff depending on how much you gamble. lately i have been getting a bunch of offers for free and discounted rooms and shows / events ect. vegas is fun, enjoy!

Get the $1000.00 in Ones.
Walk into any busy casino find direct center of the action, and toss it into the air.
Get out of the way and watch the fun.
No free drinks but it is better than watching the dealer take it from you slowly and surely.

I enjoy walking through the casinos except for the smoke, and I like to gamble but hate watching it go away so fast!! I figured out they are a lot better at it than I am.

That is just me my wife likes to gamble and I hang out suck up the free ( if you don't count what is spent gambling) drinks.
Set your goal to lose the grand as slowly as possible and have fun.
Do not try to win it back, that is how they built those casinos.

Have fun and be carefull

Ah Vegas... Many trips, good times, and lost wages there...

Yeah Dude, no Casino will charge you to be there. In fact, in Vegas just about every business doubles as a Casino and has slot machines up near the front of their building.

If you want to play Texas Hold 'em, just about every big hotel/casino has a poker room and does a 1-2 tournaments a day. Usually the buy-in is somewhere from $20 to $40 with no re-buys. (Once you're out, you're out.) Generally they all do something like double the blinds every 15 minutes, so you have to watch for what I call "Poker Teams". What I mean by that, is I've seen 3 or more people funnel their chips to one main player who can then bully the table and blind you out as the stakes go up. This is illegal as all hell, but almost impossible to police.

Every casino does Black Jack, but not all of them do it the same. For instance, some places will play only a single deck, but frown if you show your cards to the other players and deal your cards face down. (That was the case at The Stratosphere when I was there last November.) Other casinos do a 3-deck stack and play to a marker in the deck, but deal face up. $5 Black Jack tables are almost always full, no matter what time of day or night it is. If you go down to Freemont street (Old Las Vegas, downtown area) you might even find $2 Black Jack tables.

If you're there on a weekend and you don't like waiting in traffic and finding parking, every hotel/casino has taxi stands and a line of cabs for you to get into. Sharing a cab with friends isn't a bad idea, especially if you're going to be drinking... (And who goes to Vegas and doesn't drink?)

Buffets- Vegas hotel/casinos are full of buffets and good restaurants and they all vary in price. Depending on the later in the day it is, depends on how much the buffet costs. If you're looking for a cheap, but good breakfast buffet than you want to hit Circus Circus. (It's only like $10 a person) Excalibur is like $12 and also good, and most of the others are $15 and up.

Valuables- Vegas is huge for pick-pockets and thieves. If you have something nice like jewelry that you're not wearing out, make sure you leave it in the safe in your room. Don't leave it where the cleaning lady or someone can just snag and run with it... Same goes for your cash that isn't on you. Definitly don't leave anything open in plain sight in your car while in the parking lot.

That's pretty much it that I can think of... Vegas is an absolute blast and I generally head up there once or twice a year. (It is the perfect weekend get-away from So Cal.) Have fun!

Oh, and my last tip- Don't ever gamble on the first day you're there. Go to a show, check out the strip, whatever... If you start gambling and lose money on the first day, you almost feel obligated to keep gambling and try to chase your money for the rest of the trip.

The casinos don't charge to get in. All of them tend to look the same after a while, so just find one you're comfortable with. I know imperial palace has $5 black jack tables

Generally speaking, the big hotel casinos will be the most expensive to play. Hard to find $5 blackjack/craps tables in those. To find the cheaper places to gamble, look at the gambling halls (without hotel). There is one on each side of the Flamingo (Bills Gambling Hall and O'Sheas). Also, downtown has lots of places to play for cheap. And as mentioned, don't be afraid to ask the dealers questions. Forgot to add, tip the drink ladies. They will be quicker with your rounds if you tip (just $1 a drink).

And you definately won't be charged to get in. Only night clubs will charge admission.

Oh, and hit up the sports book (off-track) if you need a breather.

I put one $20 bet on the Daytona 500 a couple years ago just because I needed a place to recoup before getting ready for the night. Thing saved my life. I was so dehydrated from a 32-hour bender that I basically just slept, ate & drank there for 3 hours all off my bet.

NOTE: Some sports books WILL charge you to get in if you are not staying at their hotel.

My suggestion for gambling. Set yourself a daily limit. Once you reach that limit, do not spend any more. Go find something else to do.

I'm a cheap bastard and only play on $50 a day when I go. But if I play it right, that can last me a couple hours.
