OK, so I just joined the local volunteer fire department and between my jump bag and my turnout gear there is no more room in my truck. (Have 2 car seats for the kiddos in the back) plus when I actually start using my gear I don't want my truck to stink of smoke. My question is where/how do u store your gear in your truck?

I leave my gear in my locker at the station...when I do take it home, it's in the back...then store it in the garage...i love that smell, chicks dig it too. :)

A jump bag is a medical bag that is carried on an ambulance. I am also an emt so that's why I have both.

If you've had it for 10 years hope your about to replace it.

Please do not let your kids play in it or get near it (your gear), turn out gear gets so much hazmats and unburned fuel among much other things. I don't let any kids play with mine or let it get near my family as you never know what you could be bringing to them.

When we have cub scout tours I make sure to wash my gear so they can see it and touch it.

My gear stays at the station

    1) I dont need to worry about it being stolen
    2) The chemicals stay at the fire house
    3) I'm going to be riding on a truck anyway
    4) It stays warm :)

I try not to take my gear with me and when I do it rides in the back back

Its my personal gear. I have it so if I get called out on a medical call I have the basics with me incase the ambulance gets held up.

i keep mine in the backseat in my gear bag. As markmatters said, i also don't mind the smokey smell (though i do wash the gear as needed).

Im about to have a girl in april and will run into similar problems. Im looking at getting a toolbox for the back to throw the boots/bunker pants, helmet and coat in. Gloves/vests/etc usually ride in a pocket.

I ride POV a lot given my distance to station ( a good 3 miles, so i usually miss the first two trucks out ) and most of the wrecks/fires tend to be on my side of the district, go figure. I don't run medical currently.

    Best of luck!
