Adirondack chairs

So me and my brother in laws started doing some weekend woodworking, making Adirondack chairs out of old barn wood. Finding the barn wood is probably the most challenging aspect of the whole process, but we've been lucky so far. This is one of our designs. What do you think?



We have also used white oak, cypress, and spanish cedar. My first chair I made out of treated lumber, and those can be painted. They take about 5-6 hours per chair.

We even have a design for kid's chairs as well.

the barn wood ones, we don't paint. that's just the color of the old barn. you get what you get and no two chairs are ever the same.

some people want painted chairs, we make those out of treated lumber. then they choose their color and that's that.

 

Nice, not a fan of the pointy back though.

Great idea using the wood from the old barns. Nice chairs.

I've spent a lot of time on Seneca and Cayuga Lakes.

 

looks like an awesome chair to sit it...unwind after work...and have a beer or 3.

 

Beautiful, yeah like the other guy said don't paint it! It has that rustic look

Beautiful chair. I love a nice adirondack on a hot sunny beach god only knows how much time I've wasted in one lol. I love the beat up rustic wood.

 

looks like the seat could use some redesign...try to get a curve in the seat area..it allows you to sit back in the chair more and will be more comfortable...

love the idea of using the old barn pieces though!

it would be great if you could find a rustic looking varnish finish to put on the exposed cuts on the seat slats to protect it but keep the rustic look to it...

Very nice, are you selling them, if so how much?? Sounds like a good idea for a road trip...

 

I got my plans from John D. Wagner's book "Building Adirondack Furniture" - gives you measurements, how to's, etc. I've modified mine some from the book after trial and error.

that is one gorgeous chair...wouldn't have to modify mine too much to make that work. thanks for the suggestion, i'm going to use it!
