I got a 42" Vizio LCD/LED in my living room and it is fantastic. I used to be all about Sony TV's, but have transitioned to Vizio. The quality is excellent, the price is relatively decent and they're made in the US.

As others have said, plasma is on the way out. The shelf life is too short and those things get hot as hell. Not good in a smaller room in the hotter months.

I don't know if this is true but I've been told on several occasions that Sony makes Vizio. :notsure:

Nah, it was founded in Costa Mesa, Ca!

They source a lot of their material from Taiwan though (who doesn't).

Sony may make the LCD panels for Vizio since there are only a few manufacturers of LCD panels.

There are tons of LCD panel manufactures!

Vizio usually uses LG or funai panels.

Up till recently Sony Mitsubishi and Samsung where making there panels in a joint factory. Till Sony sold there share. I suspect Sony will use there own or sharp sense they have a9% share in sharp.

It does matter what type of HDMI cable you buy. The cost of it not nessecarily. Currently you can by HDMI with or without Ethernet connections. If you are buying a new TV and components this is what you should buy. If its older or you don't care about streaming etc. then by the HDMI without ethernet. Generaly the HDMI with ethernet is considerably more exspensive. As far as the TV goes there is a lot of opinions in this thread but the op needs to decide what his uses and viewing situation will be and buy a TV and accessories accordingly. There is absolutely a ton of information available on the web and printed most of which is at least slightly biased. Read it all and you will be all set. I read that stuff constantly and can barely keep up with what is available. Buy what you think is best and never look back. Truth is it was out dated when it was assembled. All the more reason to learn more and plan your next system.

I stand corrected. I did find a list of ten manufacturers of LCD panels for TV applications in the world. More than a few.

    Bringing up the dead here...

I'm debating between 2 TVs. The major difference in my opinion is 60hz vs 120hz refresh.

How important is this on a 4K television at 55"? I don't watch sports at all, unless I'm streaming something on YouTube. My current TV is a 40" 1080p with 60hz refresh. 6yrs old.

The price difference between the models is substantial.

    Sony 900E vs 800E...if you're curious.

No gaming, except maybe Wii. Lots of movies, though. Streaming and disc.

I have 4 Vizio TVs in my house. All LED and they all work great.
I have one "smartcast" TV in my garage that I've almost shot a few times. DO NOT GET A SMARTCAST TV. :rant:I almost smashed it on the floor the first day I mounted it.

Plasma TVs are power hogs. They use a ridiculous amount of electricity compared to LEDs.
