I know quite a few people who should never own a firearm.

Everyone should retain the right to have a tactical pistol, at their own discretion.

Should everyone? Should we even be asking this question? Decisions to own or not own a weapon should always be based solely on individual choice, without prompting or encouragement one way or the other. I'd no more urge a person (or "everyone") to get a weapon than I'd urge a person not to. This isn't a football game (gun owners v. non-gun owners) with team spirit cheering one side or the other.

IMO, I don't think EVERYONE should own, or needs a gun. I have had this discussion in other threads about people carrying guns. I don't and probably will never carry one. Nor do I own a gun. I'm not saying I hate them, or don't enjoy shooting one every once in a while with buddys of mine. But, its just not my thing. I wouldn't mind picking up a nice revolver one day, just to mess around with. But I personally don't think it is necessary for people to carry guns. Unless maybe you live/work in a very bad area where you may need it. Other than that I don't see the need to carry. Kind of silly to me to go to the mall, strapped! If you feel that unsafe, then you should probably stay home.

Now I would hope you would know I'm not speaking of say off duty law enforcment. Just so no one takes me wrong.

police states love disarmed subjects, ...er citizenry...

unfortunately in this world you don't get to know the time/place when you're victimized... thugs/predators have wheels.. do a web search for "lubys cafe texas", .... maybe you'll have an epiphany...

 Considering your avatar, there is no reason to argue with you. And a situation like that, specially in a small area, chances are you would never be able to pull out a gun.

that's what training is for... even in extreme close quarters, ..there is a draw technique for that (weak hand parry, sweep and draw w/ strong hand, "bang" "bang" to the gut) - these are things we practice in advanced training courses...

BTW, i'd prefer to exercise the "choice" to have at least have a "fighting chance" in a SHTF situation... ;)

Oh your one of "those" people. I have a friend just like you...

I also bet you are preparing for December 23rd 2012?

I'm just messing with you, but we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Neither one of us is going to change the others minds.

    In my sig
    I own a XDM 9 compact w/ hollowpoints for self-defense.

When you say "tactical" I think of a pistol w/ a longer barrel for distant accuracy, for example, XDM 9 competition.

I dont know about others, but I trust myself with weapons.
XD40 tactical here...medium sized gun, but will stop a person just fine especially with HP rounds..:D

Guns are not for everyone, but they are for me, how that for an answer?

one of what "people"?.. dec 23rd?..no other than being two days before christmas :).. i don't think free men should be relegated to helplessly cowering before violent attackers... use the tools at your disposal... when you don't, the criminals will rule the day..
