A fighter jet just crashed into my neighborhood!

......no joke, though it was about 10 miles away.

From what I just heard on the TV, the pilot ejected safely, but three homes (the one it crashed into, and the two surrounding) are gone. The pilot belongs to VMFAT-101 out of MCAS Miramar.

 

DAMN! Just saw this on the news! Crazy! I hope nobody was killed!

Hate to be the messenger on this one, but with the house that the aircraft actually went into, reports are saying the wife and young kid were inside.

My prayers are with the family inside the house, as well as the pilot (and his career).

 

I work at mcas miramar and man you can smell the fire no one believed me that an f18 from 101 crashed second time within a year im hearing engine failure occured. Crazy stuff happens here.

Marine Corps officals on the ground in the neighborhood just reported two fatalities.

 

Oh no.

 

They said it might have been a mom and her kid. really sucks this is the second crash within a year.

 

From what I read, not that there's much out there yet, there was "reported to be" a grandmother, two kids and the mother in the house. I don't know how only two of them were killed unless the other two went out...but I hope that they did.

This hits a bit close to home--I worry all the time that one of the student flyers that go over our house daily will do something stupid. I live about four blocks from the university airport--scares me even more now. I mean what are the odds, but obviously it does happen. Where I grew up, there was a fireplace and chimney, all overgrown, and the steps that led up to what used to be a house, all that was left of a house hit by a small plane when I was small. A litte old lady was home when it hit. That story scarred me for life, and here I am living on top of an airport, what the hell was I thinking?!

I feel especially bad for the husband who was at work at the time, nothing is reported, but there must have been a husband at work....

 

Now three dead, one missing.

The father / husband was just interviewed on local news infront of his house. His two children were 1 month, and 15 months....

I've been following the story--my heart goes out to him, losing everything just when everything probably seemed perfect.

I feel bad for the pilot as well--he has to live with this, and he isn't all that old. The first thing he said was "I hope I didn't kill anyone" or something like that. This is truely a tragic accident.
