Well, you'll get the normal Jeep crap from a Toyota forum.

I understand they are underpowered and there are the usual Jeep electrical issues that arise after a few years. $26k for a 2010 Jeep seems steep IMHO.

Seems they worked out the under powered part with the 2012s. Tell your buddy to buy a 2012 Jeep Rubicon...thats what I'd do (the only Jeep i'd own). My pop owns a TJ and loves it. It's his DD and has never had any problems with it. The old 4.0 straight 6 was a great engine IMO.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
OP - What does your friend want to use this Jeep for? Mostly on pavement? Off road? A mix of both? What percentage on/off. What type of off-road, dirt trails, rock crawling, sand dunes, etc..

The ad you shared looks like a city folk Jeep for going to the mall. Also seems overpriced. But that varies and best to use kbb to see if that is reasonable.

BTW, if your friend has $85,000 to spend then this Jeep looks pretty solid... but off course your friend will need your Tacoma to trailer it and tow it to location - I imaging this is very very unsafe on the freeway - Yikes!

as of right now he isn't really into off roading though i'm sure once he has a jeep-type vehicle he will take it into the woods at his cabin. i'd have to ask to see if he has any intentions of putting any money into it for aftermarket goodies. i would say majority pavement oriented driving. he doesnt have kids and doesn't really need to tow/carry anything that heavy. i think he likes the 4 doors to transport friends/family.

i traded in my '05 rubicon LJ to get my taco...it was my DD, but with 3 kids the two door thing really wasn't working for me anymore, plus i wanted the bed. i had virtually no problems in the 6 years i owned it, plus i wheeled the snot out of it.

i loved the 4.0L with my 6 speed. i would NOT buy the 3.8L pos that is found in the 2011 and older JK's. take one for a ride and judge for yourself. the new pentastar engines are infinitely better in every way. plus they redid the interiors in 2011, so with a new one you get the best of both worlds. tell your friend to hold out for a 2012.
