I would vote but can't figure out how,
I know a few people and have friends that were bullied. I know from watching friends that bullying makes a huge impact, especially when it is all day every day.

Unfortunately, A lot of kids are afraid to fight back because of the zero tolerance fighting policies that the schools have adopted. It's sad when the kid who's bullied gets in just as much trouble as the bully if he/she fights back. A guy I work with is dealing with it with his kid right now.

i won't vote for any of this "bullying" propoganda if the goal is to rein down w/ more heavy-handed laws we don't want, nor need... like macgyver said, the first step is to roll back these zero-tolerance rules, which are chilling to self-defense... when i was in skrool, the "bullies" largely fit a common profile, and i could never understand why teachers/officials couldn'd have a better awareness of who the overly aggressive ones were... the key to stopping "bullying" is the parents and the teachers, ...not more nanny-state laws...

True, but the teachers themselves either don't care or are incompetent 85% of the time. At least, that was the problem with the schools I attended.

Bullying is not always physical and fighting back is not always an option. My stepdaughter has been getting teased and ostracized for quite some time now. As much as I would like to tell her to beat the crap out of one of the offenders, it is just not a viable solution. The options are pretty bleak as well. The school's solution is to separate her from the others, but that just creates a larger social gap and if they kids were to get in any sort of trouble, the situation and bullying would just get worse.

Kids today are way more cruel than they were when I was a kid, perhaps because they are taught selfishness and not to care or be concerned with the feelings of others. That they are all that matters in their world. Social media only makes it worse, as you can now give shit to someone on the bus, in the hallways, in class, on Facebook, Twitter, forums, everywhere. It is next to impossible to get a break from the abuse and ridicule.

I have seen this a couple times, but usually the kid getting bullied is afraid to fight back because they will get the crap beat out of them (from the ones I have seen). I had a friend in highschool (private highschool, not zero tolerance as much) have his mother tell him if he was getting pushed around etc.. to make it stop....my friend was a black belt. He was never bullied though.

I wish many times that I grew up in a time where if you fought back, only the person who started it got in trouble, and even then, they were fussed at and the 2 ended up friends, whatever.

I hate how the schools are now....

More state laws isn't the answer, fighting back isn't the answer, just taking the bullying cause more psychological damage to the bullied, can't give all the kids weapons either (whats that saying? Armed society is a polity society?)..

    So what is the solution?

the problem is a symptom of our own societal problems...

the attack on family values, bad parenting, broken families, zero-tolerance, and political correctness - in a nutshell... as the aforementioned have increased, so has the problem w/ violence, bullying, and disrespectful yoofs... the encroachment of gov't as nanny has exacerbated the whole thing... so, like i said before, the way to curtail these problems lies w/ the PTA, not the Dept of Ed...

There will never be a solution. It has always existed and it always will exist. The best thing we can do is teach our kids to stand up for themselves. There will always be agressive kids and there will always be submissive kids.

I was teased when I was in school because I was really short (I had to take growth hormone shots from age 10-16 to grow because my body stopped producing growth hormone). I learned to just ignore and it move on with my life and not let it get to me. I am who I am, if you have a problem with me...then well...that's your problem not mine.

Personally I think bullying and teasing are two different things. Bullying usually starts out as teasing.

It sucks...but it's part of life and makes us who we are. My girlfriend still deals with body image issues due to teasing in high school and college and she's now 28 years old. Now she has a killer body because it motivated her to work out a lot and get in great shape...however I have to reel her back in sometimes because she lets it get a little obsessive at times and it's not healthy.
