Do what , get procedures done in the US or other foreign country ?

Yes it's fine , I do believe it's up to the patient to prove that it was necessary to go elsewhere in order to be compensated though

I'm lucky my employer pays for my insurance. I do have up to a $3000 deductible for outpatient surgery or hospitalization where $1500 of it is refundable at the end of the year. That is, if I pay at least $1500 or else I don't get any of it back.

Edit* My god you guys covered a lot while I wrote this small paragraph. I will leave it here but it's all been covered!

As for leaving the country and having it covered by our provincial healthcare, I know in NB that going stateside for a procedure then you are only covered if it is not offered here. As for elective surgeries/procedures etc, they are on your own dime unless theres some loophole I'm unaware of. (not out of the question)

Broken bones, I have always had set immediately. The waits usually come with more complex things as OZ mentioned.

Since you were born, holy crap how do you control it. Does that control what foods you consume as well?

Hey champ, non political, gathering information, stated in the first post of the thread. Wondering who else has been getting screwed by the system for things we can not control? Kindly delete your post so others do not follow suit.

So clearly this lady was blowing smoke up my ass about how bad it is.

    Doesn it #hearteyes

Never had to wait for anything. Stitches? In and out in half an hour without pulling out my wallet or picking up a pen to fill out anything. Cat scan? One hour wait. Couple days for results.

General (non threatening surgeries) I.E. Hernias, re breaks, etc. Can have quite the wait list, but not too bad.

Seems the lady I spoke to was on the same level as the others out here, expecting more from something that already works splendidly. How long have you guys not had pre-existing condtions?

You don't get it , NOBODY can be disqualified from our social healthcare system

Pre-existing conditions would only affect supplimental private insurances ( ie health insurance / disability insurance on a mortgage etc )

The only time we have pre-existing conditions is when we apply for third party life insurance. I get extended medical through work for a little extra(covers things that aren't normally, IE, therapy (physical or mental), actupuncture, prescription, etc) and doesn't matter if I have pre exsisting. My gf does not pay for medical at all, I pay $60 a month because I make over a certain amount.

To be honest, most of that is the same in the US too. Most hernias, gallbladders, etc aren't life threatening. Painful, sure, but relatively safe for a few days.

Probably also depends where you live and the amount of available resources. I'd assume the folks in the Yukon might be "same day" compared to someone in Toronto, just because of sheer volume of patients.

I would consider it to be, but then again, instead of just walking in screaming hail mary, might be worth it to go for lunch with the guy, charm him into removing it.
^^^ This, though thats just for basic coverage. Any additional coverage I want (even if its through public health care) then I pay a few dollars a month premium for. More then pays for itself through 100% covered dental cleanings alone.

Personally I have private health insurance too, due to some of my extreme hobbies, this insurance I pay about 300$/ month for, but it covers me for all medical expenses + a lump sum pay out if I ever use it. If I never use it, then whole amounts paid out + interest when plan expires in 20 years.
This might work for braces too.. :notsure:

Well true, i mean you could look at mansion rentals if you want, but I was refering to his "3 Bedroom" frame of reference. 3200 for 3 bedrooms is average

canada's health system is good i suppose, if you like to be 100% dependent on gov't for your life/wellbeing... and don't get to antsy, ...when they got you by the balls, ...it could really hurt...
