I have been in the IT industry for 22 years and have had Gateways, HP, Compaq (both before and after they merged), Northgate (you will have to go way back to know who that was) and Dell. I have worked on IBM's as well. By far the best laptops I have ever used are the Dell Latitude series. IBM/Lenovo are decent and I almost went with a Toshiba over my Dell on my last tech refresh, but stayed with the Dell and have not been disappointed. My only knock on the Latitudes is they are not real strong multimedia systems. Video is decent but the audio is "tinny".

My boss has a Macbook and loves it, but I have just never been a big Mac fan. Not that Apple doesn't put out a good product, but just personal preference. It's not like it was years ago when there was not as many available applications for Macs, so that would not be a bad choice if you have the $$$.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I second that, I am typing on one now, haven't had any troubles with it at all. Been through 3 PCs already, but I am certain that this Macbook will be here to stay awhile! They are so easy to use, much more user friendly. Great battery life too, I can get 7 hours out of mine if the screen isn't too bright.

They're not. I'm a web developer, and when I was outfitting my office, I looked at the top of the line Mac, and bought a more powerful PC for half the price. The biggest advantage used to be the Apple OS, but with Windows 7, that advantage is virtually eliminated. As for viruses, a lot of Mac users like to say they don't get viruses, but the truth is, the reason that viruses are rare is because there are more PCs world wide than Macs. People who write viruses want to hit as many targets as possible, so they target PCs. As we found out earlier this year with the flashback virus, not only do they get viruses, but because of the myth that they don't, they spread rapidly. As a matter of fact-
    http://m.smh.com.au/digital-life/co...hat-macs-dont-get-viruses-20120703-21ei4.html
Apple is trendy ( they don't necessarily make superior products, but they do have superior marketing. As more and more people go to the hipper and trendier Mac, I predict viruses to increase.

Parts quality? A lot of hardware is made by the same manufacturers who make parts for other products. (Ironically, the processor for the iPad is made by Samsung, the company Apple is suing all over the world for copyright infringement). But there are so many PC manufacturers, it only makes sense that some are going to be better than others, and therefore more failures. Mac isn't a crap product, but I do believe you're paying for a logo.

As for quality PCs, I have an old Toshiba that is over 10 years old, it's bullet proof. I now use an HP, but after an issue unrelated to my laptop, I have sworn off of them for their piss-poor customer service. They'd have to get better to suck. Also found out they have cooling issues...it started to get to the point where it almost too hot to touch. After researching the issue, I now use compressed air to keep the internal fan clean, and no issues.

One thing I will give the nod to on Mac is their customer service. My understanding is it is second to none. For me, howeve, it didn't justify the $1 000 price difference.

    ).
Before Windows 7, I'd agree with that statement. But with 7, even my peers and contacts who are involved in tech based careers concede there is virtually no difference. And while many comparison reviews give a slight edge to the Mac os, the price difference doesn't justify it IMHO. Windows 8 is going to be very interesting in that there is speculation it might over take Mac. Of course, that shouldn't matter much to tacoma4x4girl, as that probably won't be released in time.

At the end of the day, try them both. It's going to come down to personal preference. There is little difference between Mac and PC. The fan boys will tell you Mac is VASTLY superior, the haters will call it over-priced hype. Most others will tell you what they use is best. Myself? I'd get a PC for school work, and use the extra money to get a tablet for research, surfing and reading. (Android, of course:D) Then use the leftover money for toys for my Tacoma!

More votes for the Macbook Pro. I just wish they weren't so expensive! I will still use it after college, but I don't think I will as much is the reason I say that.
