Of course, my truck really isn't all that suspicious. LOL. Seriously, we were looking at some wooded land in the country for our new home, driving up and down the street so as to not block traffic. A hard rain prevented us from getting out. However, one goal was to actually see the water drainage during a hard rain. Also wanted to check out the neighborhood again.

In the process, we passed by a neighboring house several times, soon noticing the occupants were watching us from the porch. To prevent a further spectacle, we decided to pull off the road into a shallow ditch (good thing we have a 4x4) instead of driving up & down the street even more. While we stopped directly in front of the land for sale, we were still only a few hundred feet down from that house.

Anyway, perhaps concerned about an unknown vehicle repeatedly passing by (now in the ditch just down the road), they evidently called the police. Soon afterwards (only in the area about twenty minutes), a deputy in a sheriff's cruiser pulled up to ask if we needed help. I told him what we were doing (thinking about buying the land) and he laughed, telling us someone had called to report a suspicious vehicle.

We talked for a few minutes about the area and similar (shouting out windows since neither of us wanted to get out in that rain) and he eventually drove on to pull into the neighbor's driveway. A few minutes later, he passed by again to return in the direction he originally came from, waving as he went by. Never saw him again.

End of story, except to perhaps say we are going to buy the land. Hope to be in the new house soon.

I don't blame the neighbors, but it's a good story to tell. :D

They'll either be good security for you after you build or a big pain in the ass..........too early to tell. Not really blaming them for erroring on the side of safety at this point tho but you parked by some land for sale should have been a clue...if there is a for sale sign posted.

Oh, I don't blame the people for calling the police. It was just a funny incident, made even funnier by the absolutely pouring rain (it was really coming down), the deputy not wanting to get out his cruiser in that rain, us shouting back and forth some distance out the windows, and so on. Pretty absurd all around.

We usually get along with our neighbors quite nicely, so I'm not really worried about that. And, yes, there are two "for sale" signs, but we were driving roughly the equivalent of a block or two each way up the road to turn around, so not always directly in front of the property.
