Hey everyone, my dad has a 1980 firebird formula that has been sitting for about 15 years, 10 of which it was in a barn. Not in bad shape at all, but it hasn't been started in forever. Does anyone have any pointers of what I should do before I try to turn of the engine? I will also post pics of the progress

Change any fluids (oil, radiator), change spark plugs, check the wires, battery, filters (air, oil, fuel), check the belts, etc. 1980...carb or fuel injection?

Pull the plugs--put some OIL in the cylinders-- couple ounces--let sit overnight BEFORE Cranking. Drain GAS-if any--spray "fogging oil" (into cyl)when you first turn it over(after the overnight wait)--(Still no plugs) This will lube the cylinders.
EFI? or carb? Drain carb. If there is any old gas--get rid of it.-it will clog everything.
    This will get you started.
    And previous post--plugs ect.

Good advice above. Instead of engine oil, you could (and some say should) use a penetrating oil, like PB Blaster. The turn the engine by hand (breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt). To make sure all is free before giving it the starter. You might have to pull the carb and spray it out with carb cleaner to free up any varnish that has formed in the orifices.

All good advise above. Good luck! I had a 1980 pass through my hands a year or so ago. I've had way too many of these things.
