Took my English Bulldog (Bella) to the vet today for swelling on one of her paws. The doctor doesn't think that the swelling/growth is a tumor - but he took some samples and we should hear back within the week if it is something cancerous or if it is just an abscess. If it's an abscess, antibiotics will be able to treat it.

Because of her age (4) it is a possibility that it might be a cancerous tumor - and it if it is (and is malignant) - he told me that she may need surgery. Because of the size of the area - if it comes to surgery - the whole "toe" will have to come off....which sucks! Meanwhile, I have to clean it 2x a day with some solution they gave me. Will let you know more as I find out.

Thinking good thoughts for you and your dog. Isn't it funny how far we go for our pets? I would do anything for my dog, and I'm sure you would too. Good luck and I'm sure everything will turn out OK in the end.

Hopefully, it's just an abscess... I would think that she could easily get something like that from stepping on a thorn, or other foreign object that made it's way into her paw... I've seen that sort of thing happen before. My big shepherd/husky/wolf mix is going in today to have a TPLO surgery done on his knee after tearing his ACL. It's a pretty big procedure, and he won't be able to bear any weight on that leg for a couple of weeks, which is going to make things interesting given his size.

My very best to Bella and you. I had English Bulldogs for years, and I have to say they're a lot of work, but worth every minute :D

Sorry to hear that -- I'm sure she'll be alright... the anticipation and anxiety is what sucks.
