Back in HS I sang in the quasi pro choir, when 21 voices are in absolutely perfect pitch, something rises up, something greater than the some of the parts, amazing.
And OZ, you'll appreciate this one, the sound of a perfectly tuned and intonated guitar power chord thru a rodded Marshall stack, makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up and makes yer balls tingle!

The deep, throaty rumble of my Bronco's 400M V8 firing up on a cold morning. Something about cold pipes that makes it louder I think. Not obnoxious, just deep and throaty like I like it to be.
The 390 in my 67 F250 doing the same thing.
Sound of a Harley Davidson with Vance and Hines big radius pipes. Mine with stock pipes is ok, but my Dad's has the VaH pipes and sounds just right. Not obnoxious, but smooth and flowing with a nice note.
And of course, the sound my dogs make when I pull into the driveway returning for a weekend from college. They yowl, yip and wiggle with anticipation at the site of my Tacoma.

the older Harley's had an awesome "potato-potato"...

tuned right w/ the right pipes...even newer ones (up to about 2005) can sound awesome. the newest bikes have too much EPA tuning and exhaust sensors that ruined the classic sound. HD has tried to simulate it with pipe tuning...but it just sounds fake to me.

btw, lets see pics of those old trucks!

The 390, we just got it running mid summer, had to make it look perty! Too bad its gonna get all muddy this winter, but hey, its a work truck.

And lastly, my 03 Softail Standard. Never heard an old Harley run before I don't think but now I really want to! I sure love my bike though, it has been my dream to ride one since I was a little kid after my dad took me for my first ride on his old 94 when I was about 3 years old. Not to mention, I couldn't pass up the deal on it, and it is not perfect by any means, nor would I want it to be, but it is uniquely mine!

    thanks for the pics

    that '67 Ford is awesome!!!

and I've had my share of Harleys (Fat Boy's...Road Kings...), and your '03 is still a good bike. the newest ones (like my '07 RK or my '11 Fat Boy) are junk IMO. gov regs have ruined them. they run too lean and are too effing hot, not to mention the sound just is not the same (even w/ a nice set of pipes)

btw...check out an old Panhead or Nuckle...the sound is distinctive. classic potato-potato...potato-potato...

Sweet deal, my Grandpa used to tell me about his 48 Panhead, those are such cool bikes. A friend of mine has a 79 Shovelhead that he hopes to have running this spring. Does not need much other than a few cosmetic things, he got into a bad wreck with it about 12 years ago, very thankful he is still with us after that incident. But needless to say, it will be great to see an old legend brought back to life!
