I'm from Tacoma, Washington and I like to think they are named after the city I grew up in. Which is actually totally ridiculous considering Tacoma is a fairly average regular place (I'm being nice here!). When most people are talking about the city of Tacoma they are either talking about the smell or how it manages to be both ghetto and redneck all at the same time.

Anybody have any insight as to why they started calling the legendary Toyota Pickups Tacomas?

I'd imagine to keep up the trucks ending in the same sound...Sequioa, Tundra, Tacoma...etc and of course, to give the trucks a name that has to do with the rugged Pacific Northwest. 4Runner and FJ don't apply...lol
