I'm not trying to pick a fight with any of you who are content with your Hero 1 or 2...but the resolutions and frame rates available on the Black Edition are completely worth $400. Find me a camera that shoots 1080 progressive frames at 60fps AND 720 progressive at 120 frames per sec. Not to mention the fact it can actually shoot 4k resolution too...that's real film quality....let me illustrate

plus you can take it under water, wear it on your head, fits in your pocket, wi fi remote, etc. etc

I only wish I could buy 10 of these ;)

well the 4k resolution is only 15fps on this new go pro...so it's kinda a gimmick, but the mere fact it CAN is an accomplishment.

of course I don't have a screen that can display 4k...digital projectors at your movie theater are only 2k. but then why do film makers shoot at 4k or higher? because when you bring that huge resolution down to a smaller display it simply looks better in the end result

Well I was out looking for a hero 2 yesterday in the motorsport edition and couldn't find one. Then this morning I got the email from Gopro that the hero3 is available for preorder. Glad I didn't buy one yesterday. I would have been pissed. Now the wait begins to get them in the stores......uuugh

I highly recommend saving the extra coin for the Black edition. The silver and white editions are nice with built in wifi but the REAL upgrade here is the 1080p60 and 720p120 IMO

heheheh No, I unfortunately have a Hero 2 in my lap right now. 4K is great for feature films, which is probably their target market. The regular GoPros are absolutely terrible, even compared to the H2. I'm kicking them out of my show right now - next FedEx back to L.A. Just seems to be one of the first times GoPro came out with something before Contour. :D

I've been wanted to get the WiFi BacPac but its a hundred bucks. If I sell my hero2 for 150, I could just buy the new 3 (the 199.00 version) and it already comes with wifi in the camera. I'll just have to find someone who doesn't know about the 3

You do realize the 199 one is only 5 mp instead of 12mp right? It has a 3 shot burst where the black has 30 shot burst. It also only goes up to 1080p and doesn't come with the wifi remote just the wifi in it. Black also has the pro low light option.

I don't use the still camera part of it so that isn't important to me. The $199, $299 and $399 are all 1080p. The only difference between the 1080p is the $399 one supports 60fps rather than the standard 30fps.

30fps is plenty enough. 60fps is good for slow motion. Again, I don't need that feature. The $399 version does support 4kp, but only at 12fps. 4kp is way too large for anything I'd ever use it for. The $199 is fine for my use.

It has the WiFi built in. I don't care about the wireless remote. Also, not 100% sure, but the iPhone app can receive what the camera is viewing...I'm just not sure if it can control the camera itself like the wireless remote does

the app should be able to control the camera, you just won't be able to control 50 at once at a range of 600'

more frames is always better for fast action sports, which is why most people buy a go pro IMO but it is a big price difference from the white to the black edition. and there are three versions for a reason, to better suite individual needs like you are saying

GoPro has a fixed pricing that you cannot deviate from or you risk being dropped from the brand or else I would try to work something out for you guys :(
