I thought there was already a thread on this but I couldnt find it, the wife and i are looking at watching some good horror movies and weve heard some pretty good things about sinister just wondering what everyones favorite/recommendations are on horror movies. preferably ones with a good story not just a jump factor.

Curious to see what people come up with. Few of my favorites:
    - Chernobyl
    - Thirteen Ghosts
    - Silent Hill

i have a lot of problems finding movies that are actually scary anymore. New horror movies seem to be so predictable and unrealistic, with exceptions to "fantasy" horror movies. But i can still watch some horror movies from 30, 40 years ago and find myself sitting quietly on the couch, staring at my window, where as new movies are just kinda overdone and boring. Id like to see some recommendations as well

    In no particular order:

The Descent: Claustrophobia, monsters, caves, british chicks. Pretty scary. Lots of gore, but lots of jumps as well. Probably the only movie that really gets to me. When we sit down to watch it, I know I'm gonna be scared.
Rosemary's baby: Classic 1968 creeper - not a lot of jumps but a really good story, and it's a classic so everyone should watch it at least once.
28 Days Later: British zombies. Lots of scary zombies, a good amount of blood and gore
Halloween: The original, of course. Another classic. Young Jamie Lee Curtis. Filmed with really great fall color filters, it has the perfect setting and mood to get you in the Halloween spirit.

One of my favorites. It's not very predictable so the story was decent.

I know this is an old thread, but I think we need to revive it. I have been trying (and failing) to find some good horror movies. Recommend me some good ones (preferably on Netflix)!

We watched The Babysitter last week on Netflix and it’s actually not bad. Tons of blood and some gore but it’s a pretty entertaining story actually. Had dismissed it for weeks before we gave it a shot.

It was entertaining, but not really what I’m looking for. I want something that really creeps me out.

The Fourth Kind is a good one, DL. It’s on Netflix or Amazon right now, too.
