He was saying the actual price of the gas itself. 10 bucks a gallon is price of gas + their high taxes which are added up top of that.

To be honest I would rather use up all of the hajji oil before we touched our stuff. Deplete them of their supply first, then start to use ours as they lose all power over the market.

Just want to reiterate this point, just because the oilcomes out of our ground doesn't mean it will stay here. It will go to whoeveris willing to pay the most for it. Short of nationalizing one of the oilcompanies I don't see it staying in the US unless we are willing to pay fairmarket price for it. Continued growth in other parts of the world as well asoil futures trading will keep oil prices moving upward even as US demanddecreases and production increases which has been the trend as of late.

Drill Alaska! In 30 years the EPA will be so restrictive only electric cars will be allowed and we will still have oil, but hardly a need for it. And synthetic petroleum oil will be made cheap by then.

I feel oil drilled from US public lands should be required to stay in the US (or at least negotiate a deal where a major percentage stays).
Oil drilled in federal or state waters...ditto.

Oil driled on private land should be allowed to be sold to whomever.

[above is, of course, oversimplificatin...there are subsidies, taxes, refinement regs. and a multitude of other issues that play a part in the complicated process]

    nope

Socialism would be the government taking over the oil from private land owners...or outright taking the land "for the common good"

    note I posted:

ALL Americans own the public lands...why should a private company profit from the resources from those lands?

    a stretch...

but, shouldn't Americans who own ALL the public lands be the direct benificiaries of the resources form those lands?

I support the drilling, production domestic and exportation of natural resources. Just for the fact that oil and gas industries pay very well, which in turn helps support many other markets, any thing from manufacturing to construction.

why would a private company drill if they didn't profit? private companies drilling public land pay a royalty to the government (1/8 of the value of production).

So the government negotiate a deal where they force a private company to sell it's product where the government says? Def not a free market then.

We definitely need to drill for more oil, along with finding other fuels. I believe the epa needs to cut back on certain restrictions so that alternate fuels can actually be used without costing so much.

I believe that diesel is a very promising fuel right now but it is way to restricted and expensive. there needs to be more refineries creating diesel fuel also so that its cheaper. With a 35% higher thermal efficiency I would really like to have a diesel instead of gas. A small displacement turbo-diesel can really pump out some mpg's, and if restrictions were lessened and production was increased, it would be such an obvious choice.

But yes we do need to drill for much more oil and lower our gas prices.

I agree..But it's not that simple. The #1 export in the US last year was fuel (refined oil). We are involved in those regions because of our our economy is dependent on a secure low global price on oil. Just because we buy oil from the mid east does not necessarly mean it is shipped here. Only about 10-15% of Mid east oil is shipped to the US. The majority of our oil comes from Canada, Mexico, and the US. Just because we drill more here doesn't mean gas will be cheaper, or we will not be involved in the mid east. I would prefer the US to use up oil everywhere else, so we can have a strategic reserve when the supply deminishes. However, drilling and developing our resources brings in thousands of jobs, billions in revenue, taxes, ect... Its good for the country to drill. The environmental impacts are debatable, but either way eventually it will be drilled.
