100 yards or so. It was a timed event where they brought us outside, split us into teams, and gave each team a closed box. Told us inside was a surprise project, ready go! they all threw about the same but then they gave us a little time to fine tune for distance. My team didn't win.

That's a pretty cool concept. My company is using this event as a test bed for next year. We're planning on getting a few local schools involved in building catapults and figuring out the math behind them.

I know this has nothing to do about that catapult, but those grabbers looks crazy on the TRD sport rims. I have never seen grabbers on those rims.

That's pretty impressive. It's a big machine when you have to bring it in on a flat bed. Looks like you guys were going for accuracy.

Trying to get it to be fairly consistent. I can't remember any of the numbers but it went decently far and we had a lot of counter weight on it. We ended up winning out of like 8 IIRC. There was a larger one and it could throw farther but it whipped around pretty good and it wasn't very consistent. Pretty cool though. There was also one like you had built, but out of i-beam with massive counterweights and that sucker could throw but it threw too far so they hacked it up and it wasn't the same. Ours was pretty sweet though.

Got to work early today and found an email saying that the contest has been cancelled. The guy leading it did not give an explanation as to why, but told us to call him directly with any questions. I'm assuming the company did not get permission from the building to hold the competition. I'm pissed!

My team has already spent the prize money building our machine, and from what I've heard from other teams we stood a damn good chance to win.

I will be launching my machine anyway around lunch and will get better pictures and real video.

I'm also going to let the company know that each team deserves the prize money as we put our own time and energy into building these machines.

    Stay tuned.

Since they cancelled it, they should reimburse what you spent on the machines.

Ok. Here's what has happened. One of our employees was transporting a catapult on the beltway and lost his load. A 4x4 ended up going through the windshield of a car behind them. Fortunately the woman in the car was not injured, however she was taken to the hospital. There were two other cars involved in the accident as well.

At this point the legal side of the company is reluctant to hold the contest immediately after the event due to how it might look to the affected drivers potential lawyers. I can kind of understand where they're coming from.

There is still a chance to have the competition, but its not going to be today. If the competition is cancelled completely then I will be organizing an offsite event on private property to hold the event.

    We will have a launch!

So your entire office assembled massive siege weapons for a competition and your company thought it would be wise to cancel the competition?? Can the catapults reach the building from the parking lot? :D

Well... Mine can reach the building and so can a few others. See my last post for the real reason why they have cancelled/postponed the event.
