As a broke college student my truck mileage is killing me having to drive an hour a day to Clinicals/Class. So i thought about maybe selling/trading my truck off for a nicer car with better gas mileage. My problem is, i really don't know what kind of car that i like if i go that route. I graduate from Radiology in August but until then, gas is getting unbearable. Don't get me wrong i LOVE my truck and would hate to see it go only oweing 9K on it, but $15-20 a day in gas is really killing my bank account. Thoughts?

Part time job??? I only say this because 9K is nothing to owe on a vehicle, especially if that vehicle makes you smile every time you look at it....

For gas mileage honda civic. corrolla, smaller is definitley less comfortable. I don't think a manual gives much better mileage than an auto with the newer ones. The wife and I are going out this am to test drive a civic primarily for gas mileage. We had an accord but my daughter wrecked her car and can't afford to get another one.

I do clinical rotations 25 hours a week, have class, and have a part time job 20+hours a week. It does make me smile until i look at that the screens on the gas pumps.... I would love to keep it and just buy an older clunker car just for gas purposes to and from school, but nothing i can afford to get right now.

My fiance and I just bought an Accord and she gets 30 MPG with it (she's got a heavy foot also). It's a 2011 4 door, 4 cylinder. We picked it up for just under $16k with about 20k miles on the clock and the extended warranty. It's a nice little car for the money, even I enjoy driving it.

Get a cheap motorcycle. $500 can get you a decent older bike that gets about 55 mpg.

Selling my truck, i would be able to get a 15k or so car and pay off my loan and not have a $316 a month Truck payment. Not having that payment right now would be golden. Maybe i can just hit a 10K lotto, pay my truck off, and bam!! (Only if i played the lottery)

I have a R6 that is already paid for. But from November-April it isn't doing me any good in 20 degree weather:censored:

Is selling the R6 for a beater car an option?

Keep the truck and buy a $1k gas sipper like a mid 90's civic. You would regret selling your truck.

Yeah i have listed it on a few places but the more i have thought about it, having the bike mpg and something that i love to do, outways keeping the bike instead of my truck.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I'm in the same boat as you, just grit your teeth and keep it, seems most people here that get rid of their Tacos instantly regret it. I for one know I'd be in trouble if I did, Montana is tough on vehicles, too much gravel, snow, and just about everything else, really takes a toll on cars. Also, you might try carpooling with other kids, just make up some excuse like you lost the keys to your truck, someone slashed your tires, etc...Usually works for me anyway. Could be a lot worse, you could be stuck with a big 3/4 ton gas hog that gets 8mpg on a good day, tons of kids on my campus drive huge full sizers, I feel bad for their wallets or their parents wallets.

Get rid of the debt and get through school. During this short period in life you need a reliable, fuel efficient vehicle to get you from point a to point b. Also, once you're out of high school girls tend to care less about what you drive.

I had a 4 banger before this one and it didn't get much better because i had to have it to the floor to get up the on ramps lol.

If that's the case, you think a Corolla is going to do ya any good? HAHA:eek:

IMHO....you've spent alot of time paying your truck down. I would keep it. Before you know it, you will be done school and then truck will be paid off and you will have the vehicle you love vs some little terd you hate driving.
