So I am getting ready to do some work on the truck and pop the hood. Walk to the front and open her up and BAM a cat shoots out from the engine compartment.

Anyway, it had room because previous owner took the air box out and I haven't replaced it with the Volant I have my eye on. Not sure who was more startled though, me or the cat.

I figured he was just trying to stay warm. I will be knocking on the hood before starting from now on that's for sure. Don't really want to risk havin to clean out dead cat. Knew a guy with a tundra who had squirrels make a best out of patio chair stuffing and chew thru his wiring harness. Glad that didn't happen.

This is awesome. Good thing he wasn't in there when you fired it up! I've had one ride home with us before.

Had a similar experience with my Ford Bronco, had the window down and a thunderstorm rolled by, came out to go somewhere and a cat had jumped in and was hiding in the back under the tarp. Heard something rustling around back there and whirled around and a black cat popped up from behind the back seat, mewing at me. I opened the door and let him out, but it sure startled me! Just glad he didn't piss or shit all over back there. Figured he was a stray just taking shelter from the storm.

This reminds me of when I was working at James Wood Autopark in Denton, Texas. We had a Cadillac come in for an oil change and the tech lifted the hood and got things ready there, then lifted the car up on the rack. When he went under it with the shop light to get to the drain plug, he saw some movement. At first he said he wasn't sure what he saw, then he looked around and didn't see anything. Well he drains the oil and when he puts the filter wrench on the oil filter, something MOVED and he jumped back yelling like all Hell. Of course everyone ran over to see what was up and he was pointing at the car and said he SWORE there was a snake there. So the shop foreman looks a little better and noticed that a solid black snake was INSIDE the frame at the front and was poking out from where one of the frame bolts was at. It took him about 30 minutes to finally get this thing out and it turned out to be a rat snake that was close to 5 feet long! After that I have always been a bit cautious when working under a car or truck.
