My lizards eat crickets. Monitors can eat rats and mice. And bunnies too.

No worries, I have been a reptile enthusiast for 25 some years now....very interesting critters (to me!). If you don't have kids, cats, or dogs the lizard is pretty harmless, and will not try to attack you unless its cornered with no where to go. Basically don't bug it and it wont bug you. BUT, it does kill lots of native animals to stay alive on a daily basis, something that is killing FL ecosystem unfortunately.

I have been considering moving down to FL to remove animals such as this, the reticulated python, tegu, and various other non native animals as a trapper. But I would hate to kill something I find so interesting, and the climate down their would be hard for this Wyoming guy to take. I spent 2 weeks on the Honey Prairie wildfire a few years ago in N Florida, the humidity was UNREAL for me:cool:

Crocodiles, Alligators and Tigers have been known to eat Monitor lizards. I would throw one of them back there and you shouldn't have a lizard problem anymore.

Wait until it leaves then block the gap along the bottom of your fenceline. Problem solved.

good call on a nile monitor. we had one in our apartment. it started off cute and tiny..and it grew FAST!! it was the scariest pet ever.

i would put a snare over that hole and catch it. if one bites you, they thrash about ripping. so stay calm and dont move. you move, they thrash. i watch a young girl stay cool, super cool while a 3 foot black/white tegu held her hand..they both relaxed and yank..she pulled out her hand.

i also found that with artificial UV lighting, they are much calmer. you give them real sunlight, all bets are off. they get aggresive. that is my experience. good luck.

i would shoot an arrow at it, if it was my house..

hey, if you tie a rope to a dead rat..you could pull it out. it wont let go of the rat..it will thrash and hold on.

yea based on the look in his eye, it's either of two things. 1. He's lonely and just wants to hang out at Christmas time, or....and I'm pretty sure its this choice, 2. He wants to eat you-

I would think someone would call if they heard a gun shot, but most people/web sites say it has to be taken out.

I'm curious as to why some people are saying to kill it when it has not have attacked any humans that we know. I would think that letting a reptile removal service handle it would suffice.

Only because its probably going to get you in trouble for discharging a firearm, I'd trap it then destroy it somehow. Like others have said, while its cool and hasn't hurt anyone yet, all those non-native species are super invasive and destroying the ecosystem. He needs to go.
