Took 2 pics of lizard in backyard yesterday? It looks like a monitor lizard? Any real world advice about this thing in our backyard? He is about 2 and half feet long. I read online about the monitor, but I always read/get great advice from everyone on Tacoma World. We live in South Florida..... Thanks for any replies!

If you're wanting it professionally removed try looking up a " critter control " company or similar.

Those are dangerous. Call animal control or shoot it.

I think its awesome too, pretty amazing reptile, and of course kids and dogs are going near the backyard for now. Just unsure how aggressive this thing really is? Just saw him for first time yesterday.

Yes, they are dangerous. Just stay away from him. He won't attack unless he feels in danger himself.

    But why shoot him?

TAKE HIM OUT! That's pretty cool. Never get to see things like that just randomly in Minnesota.

Actually, it is a Nile Monitor lizard from Africa, commonly sold in pet shops. A non native to FL, but a very cool animal. I would LOVE to see one of these in my backyard!!! But yes, they can be fairly aggressive, and can either bite or whip you with its long tail. Animal control can take care of it for you I imagine.

Too bad that people buy these things then they outgrow their cage and are set free in a very suitable environment such as FL. They kill out lots of native animals. Its a shame to destroy something like this but that is kind of the right thing to do considering they destroy many animals that are very cool and native to FL. Good luck, animal control may just catch it and try an adoptive service.....or kill it and be done.

Thanks for advice and everyone else as well. My wife tried calling animal control yest, they said call a professional trapper. The trapper said it could cost a bit of money depending on how difficult to catch.
