did you know they exist specifically as a corporation of lawyers whose sole
    purpose
is to sue anyone and everyone who tries to interfere with or suppress their right to free speech ?

they hope to cause trouble, or get assaulted. That is why they exist. Ultimate sleazeball lawyers.

Yes they wrap it up in anti gay and anti everything else, they do operate like religious nutbags, but they
are all well educated lawyers running the show. Problem is, this money-making model works for them.

ACLU does the same thing. Doesn't make them a hate group.

Why do people get butthurt over these idiots spewing all this bullshit? You don't have to listen to them or agree but they can do whatever makes them feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Not an apples to apples comparison. I believe in free speech too.

I don't believe in protesting at little kids and soldiers funerals just because you can.

Do some research on Westboro. I am not a political person or a religious fanatic.

It is a valid comparison in regards to them protecting their free speech rights. I'm familiar with them. I stated they're vile. I just don't believe they're a hate group.

    Two things.

I agree that they're a hate group. Laughing in the face of a mother who's son lost his life fighting in Iraq, then picketing his funeral is just disgusting. If I ever see their protests in person it will take every ounce of resolve I have not to beat the shit out of them all.

Two, why did that story end with the talk of the assault weapons ban....

They have freedom of speech to say what they wish.

HOWEVER, if you were to tell me someone accidentally looked down at his phone whilst passing by and totally not on purpose moved them down, I'd vote to nullify the jury at his/her hearing.

They're shit, yes, but they have a RIGHT to be shit. They also do not have freedom from the consequences of their actions, and if those actions get them harassed because they are assholes, then they can deal.

They came to my home town to protest a soldiers funeral. And yes it took every ounce of restraint not to do something dumb. They also posted they were going to come to one of my best friends memorial service. But apparently thought better of it because that one wasn't going to end well either. We had about 20 active duty green berets all ready to goto jail that night. Fuck those people I hope they all die in a car accident on there way to a soldiers funeral.

Is violence part of the definition of a hate group?

Yes. The main part of the definition to be exact.

Well, the primary drive of the petition is to revoke their tax-exempt status which i agree with. They are a political group in my mind that hides behind church classification that they are not entitled to. Yes, their actions, as long as they are not infringing upon anyone else's rights, are protected under the First Amendment and I respect that. But they don't operate like a church group. It's like a Neo-Nazi group trying to put itself off as a church group.

There has been quite an enlargement for that for a very long time. I think this issue begs for a definition between what is a church group and what is a political group.

    I agree.

Either way I want everyone to be taxed. No free rides regardless. I don't care if you're a non profit a church or a political campaign....tax them all!!!

Boy that would change everything. My first thought would be if we actually tried to do that, it would seem like an abridgment of rights concerning the freedom of religion, probably Constitutional lawsuits.

I'm proud of myself, i'm not even through my first cup of coffee and i spelled Constitutional correctly without needing spell check :D

Honestly, I'm amazed that a terminally ill person hasn't tried to take them all out with a suicide bomb or something.

They're the worst part of free speech. They make me sick.

Freedom or religion has nothing to do with not paying taxes for real-estate.

IMO I have to pay extra taxes to make up for land not being taxed that is for religious uses. Doesn't seem constitutionally right to me and the non-believers.

I guess what irks me the most is that the national media covers this bunch, in my mind the obvious motivation of this group is not to stand on some principle as much as it's to incite reactions in people (especially military families). It's wrong to pick on grieving families to make a point about the government's policy concerning gays in the military. They do it for press, not bedrock convictions. You don't like gays in the military? Fine, go protest the federal government.
