I have never been the proud owner of any of those cars.

That's just mean. My first car was a green 1972 AMC Gremlin. In 1988 I bought it from my grandparents for $600 with 25k miles on the odometer, in great condition. I drove it 100k miles in 5 years without any problems of any kind, then sold it for $700. It was more reliable and had more personality than either my 1965 or 1967 Mustangs. It wasn't ugly as much as it was quirky, but very reliable and fun to drive and a solid heavy build for such a small car. It had the 4.2L (258 cubic inch) 6-cylinder.

Or the Citation, Motor Trend's Car of the Year for 1980:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Citation

I should have heeded that advice. I bought a 2000 Ford Focus right off the lot. It ended up having 13 recalls! Plus the front springs had an extra link 'welded' on to give the car more height with the heavier US engine (vs the Euro ones). That weld was covered in a rubber sleeve. Well that weld BROKE on both front springs on many cars with Ford blaming it on road conditions in states with alot of snow. Took me 2 calls to Detroit to get them to admit it was a factory flaw and replace my springs for free.

Needless to say I have learned that Motor Trend is not a source to be trusted. Automobile used to have integrity but they sold out in order to sell ad space as well.

IMO the escort was a winner compared with the Ford Tempo, my 1984 Tempo is the only car I've ever owned that left me stranded when I was away from my home. It did is so many times I actually lost count, once it overheated, at least twice the valve cover gasket cracked and it started leaking oil, once the exhaust literally fell off the bottom as I was driving down the road, the stuffing fell out of the bottom of the drivers seat so I had to make my own pad, and the windows would only work in a certain temp range - too hot or too cold and they would get stuck.

It's also the only car I ever bought for under $1000, if I remember correctly it was something like $950. You get what you pay for.

I spotted a Granda in mint condition parked in the IHop parking lot...

Told my wife..."I bet ya the oldest dude eating pancakes ownes it"...sure enough an old silver hair gentleman in a Members Only leather jacket got in the Granada. He looked pretty proud to own the old Ford

The best US brand car I have owned was a '95 Saturn, base model with stick shift. But it didn't equal any of the imports I have had, except for an '84 Mazda GLC.

Test drove a Vega. Wasn't impressed.

The most unreliable vehicle I have owned was probably a '71 Scout II. It taught me a lot about auto repair, tho.

The US version of Top Gear did this comparison with the Yugo, Azteck, and the Mustang II. UK Top Gear put out a special called The Worst Car in the History of the World in November. Their pick of what's the worst car ever was unexpected but not totally surprising.

In 88, GM got a lot better, everything before that was pretty bad

Drove the wheels off of my 97 SW2 stick, little fucker just wouldn't die, finally the timing belt gave out, put another engine in it, drove it for a awhile, bought the Tacoma, sold it to a mechanic friend of mine, he put another engine in it and I saw it a couple of months ago!

Utter and sheer drivel. Those who know less than nothing about cars should do the world a favor and refrain from writing about them. Market success, or the lack of it, does not make a motor vehicle good or bad. The overwhelming majority of the cars on your "worst" list merely lacked market success- that is a very different thing from being one of the "worst" cars of all time and highly subjective. The Pontiac Aztek you so lampoon is a shortened Montana, so to inidict it you must also comdemn the Montana, the Buick Rendezvous and all the GM Minivans, which shows how ludicrous your premise is. Have your writer go back to recipes, he or she is unworthy of discussing automobiles.

The worst cat I ever owned, was an 1983 Mazda 626. The engine didnt have enough power to get up a 6% grade. I litterally was down to 20 mph on one climb. If I had 4 people in the car (Including myself), the rear springs collapsed, and would need to be replaced. The sunroof had enough power to decapitate anyone. Fotunately, the timing belt broke one day, and fraged the engine.
