SO my wife and I sold a double wide mobile home a year ago, just wanted it gone, out of our name. Guy buys it cash. We go to the notary public* to do the paper work and title transfer blah blah blah. Just yesterday I get a letter in the mail from the DMV saying the buyer is tying to get a duplicate title but the title is still in our name. We payed this douche-canoe for a service and he never filed the paperwork. Upon calling the DMV to ask some questions, I find out that his shop is not even certified with the state to do title transfers. Now what the hell, I swing in on my way home to get some answers, closed, be back later. I leave a detailed, "civil" messege on his machine. So I get ahold of him tonite and he says " oh yeah, that happens sometimes, give me the names and I will sort through the papers to find it and figure out what's going on" I already reported him to the BBB (he has several online complaints against him already, that I found) Do I just tell him to pound sand and find another place? or hold him to it and make him pay any and all additional fees for this shit? Whew.

IMO, if he is not certified, his paperwork is worthless. I would go to a reputable, certified notary. Not sure, but maybe you can even get your dough back.

I'm not talking about a lot of money, but this guy was paid for a service, which he never rendered. In my book, whether it be 10 cents or $1000, if you pay for a service it better damn well be taken care of.

If he isn't certified, how can he advertise title transfers and why would he even take customers for this type of work? Sounds like a low-life.

Go somewhere else and try to get your money back from the first guy. I'm not sure how much money you're talking about, but if it's like $1,000, it might be worth taking him to small claims court.

I thought anyone can be a notary? Certified notaries just mean that they have a good reputation in the field. I think even a friend can do it.

Certified/registered with the DMV is what I meant.

Update: Shop owner called me back, he found the paperwork. He also claims that someone else was working the shop at them time we used his services and he was not aware of the things this other guy was doing. Easy excuse for just being a bad business owner IMO.The paperwork was submitted to the DMV today.

We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They already followed up with it.
