toyota landcruiser.jpgAny of you guys have experience with these vehicles? I love the inline 6 and its indestructible... I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a 96 and all are going around 5.5k to 7 k.....you guys think there worth it?
I'm still keeping my Tacoma :)

Head gaskets but other than that the 4.5 looks like a good motor, that and what they call the PHH (pesky heater hose) a leaky heater hose that's damn hard to get to apparently, they make kits to replace with silicone. I'm going to look at a 92 with the 4.0 in it Saturday. Yeah they command a premium that's for sure. I guess it could be worth it if you really want one, I think it'd be a fun rig to build and wheel. Easy to fit 35s and f/r e-lockers. Throw a few grand into armor and you've got a built rig. Cost ya way more money to get to that point with a Taco and then you still cringe when you bang it up. At least with the cruiser you only lose a little value. :p

Not quite. Just from reading it seems like it's hit and miss with the HG on the 4.5s but probably more likely than not. Which isn't a huge deal. They're easy on these things. I hear the 4.0 can't get out of it's own way though. Even though apparently the 4.5 only has like 60 more HP. But apparently the 4.0 is SLOW, great motor but slow. You also had the e-lockers with the FZJ80 so more reason to get one IMO. Just be prepared to pop that HG.

But it'll be a project vehicle and I'll keep the Taco. I was seriously thinking about selling the Taco and DDing a 96/97 FZJ80 but after looking at that HG issue and the price for such high miles I decided to hold onto the Taco until I can buy a cummins 2500 to DD. Plus I don't want an expensive cruiser to build since I want to swap to a cummins anyway. So this FJ80 has the 3FE but it has some serious engine issues I guess and the guy is selling pretty cheap. So I'm going to look at it. Might just hold onto it until I have money for a 6bt.

exactly what I was going to do with it...I need something to do after work...I'm keeping my tacoma bone stock and want to have a rig I can mess around with and make my own...I wouldn't mind the 4l I just need something I can go out with on the trails and not worry about scratches or dings...I love going out on the trails and shooting my guns and this will be the perfect all around do anything vehicle :)

Well I think either way then just expect the possibility of HG issue. If you don't mind dumping the extra 4k into it you'll end up with lockers, and a more powerful engine, and it'll be newer. Definitely seems like everything is geared towards the 1fze not the 3fe.

I'm on my phone right now so I can't post it but check out the Cruiser video I posted on the last page of my build. Corvette engine so way more power AND greater FE which is their only real downside.

Buddy has a 97, no lockers but will go pretty much anywhere you point it. I want to buy one whenever possible, 80s are just badass:cool:

The 4.5 is no power house but it'll get the job done, my buddy has given it pure hell on trails and has yet to let him down.
