As a reference, I am turning 26 next month and over a few beers the other night, my buddy and I began realizing something interesting:

AOL Instant Messenger was the total culmination of everything we use today. That piece of work stayed relevant until the unlimited texting plans came around (death to the standard $0.10/sent, $0.05/received messaging rate!) Once adopted on our cell plans, we crushed AIM to oblivion (anyone still use that?)

    images_1f76680c94e89a64c953fb6e90a5a7a81ac078ac.jpg

AIM was a slow death though - it just wouldn't fade away. People started leaving away messages up constantly. About my junior year of college I had my AIM bar docked and looked through all my friends and not one of them was around, they were all greyed with a little notepad, fuck that! I promptly uninstalled AIM and have never looked back.

    -Instant Message = Text Message
-Away Message = Facebook Status Update
-Lower Left Icon = Profile Picture
-Warning button (lightning bolt) = Poke
-"Get Info" button = Facebook "About" Section

I could go on for hours about old cartoons. The new stuff just doesn't compare. Dexters Lab, Johnny Bravo, etc. Were awesome. I found a video recently with all the old cartoon intros that was awesome. Wonder if I can find it again. I do love me some Bob.

I'm constantly amazed at how fast society is progressing. I was thinking about this last night while playing my Xbox. These two kids I happened to be playing with said they were 13 and I asked them what the first game system they had was and they said the GameCube. I should of asked them if they've ever seen a corded phone haha. I feel old.

Anyway, some days I want to go back to high school just because it was easier than college. I didn't do crap in high school and still got straight A's. Lol

I had AIM on my old Nokia. Spent hours messaging peeps. Then I just resorted to text messaging once it died. Now it's just fb messenger and Skype. Or FaceTime. But only my gf can text or ft with me. Got tired of the texts and messages. So I got a second phone. I check my other phone once or twice a week to reply to messages sent to it.

As for high school. I don't wish to go back. Some of my friends are anticipating our reunion in a couple of years. As for me I don't bother with it. I'm still in touch with those who matter and don't care for those that don't. My friends on the other hand wants to know where everyone is and where they are in life. I don't really see the point and it seems all they care about is the old adage of look at me now. It's like they have something to prove. I guess even if you're grown up you still want to prove those who wronged you. I on the other hand don't care for the reunion nor proving anything to anyone. I feel like it's a waste of time.

I remember back in 1998 my parents bought their first computer. Old dell with a pentium 3. We shared one email account through AOL, so I signed up for AIM. We had dial up and didn't leave it logged on unless we were using it, so every time my parents got on my friends would try to chat them. One time my dad comes up from the computer (I think I was in 6th grade), he says "I had a nice long chat with SexxyBexxyBoo". She was kinda like a girlfriend. Awkward.

Good old dial up. Some kids don't even know what that is nowadays.

AIM was the shit. I'd still rather use that than FB messenger. Granted I don't exactly sit and chat on FB chat that often anyway anymore, but still.

I remember my first computer. Took a whopping hour to download 1 song from Napster.

I had AOL so for me AIM was pointless.. just a way to talk to the same people and customize my background... one thing I remember about dail-up was playing starcraft online and yelling at my parents when they would pick up the phone! lol

I didn't get my first pc until 7th grade and it was only because I needed a of to do my science project. Didn't spend much time on the pc at home. Was more preoccupied with other things. I'm more of a mobile phone kind of guy. Messaging didn't hit it off with me until I got a cellphone. And to me it was a lifesaver. No more talking on landlines and I could text with more than one girl at the same time. I remember hitting on the tourist girls and end up asking their AIM or number. Lol.

Like a typical young guy, I went out and drifted some snowy streets in my truck. I think the cops caught on to people doing this because now they sit at the big sweeping turns that I used to drift like Ken Block.

I had dial up for so, so, so long! When my buddies were downloading music with Napster on their T1 connections, all I heard was this damn sound:

Im not super old, (21) but i can say i've seen a ton of change over the last 10 years. Some of the shit they have out now just makes me roll my eyes. I remember when i was so stoked that Ed, Ed and eddy was on i remember collecting and playing with Pogs. I've been looked at like i was a complete idiot by a couple 14 year olds when i asked them if they have ever seen pogs. unfortunely people group me in with this new generation of kids that are just complete punks and disrespectful. I still say Sir and Ma'am and i dont sit down until my lady sits down at a restaurant. I hold the door open especially for people with there hands full or seniors or a mom with her children... IDK whats wrong with this generation.

I was working at a safeway a couple years back and i was checking out a marine who was an amputee at the right leg and i respectfully asked him how that happened and he said an IED went off right next to him, He gave me quite a story about how it killed one of his friends... I was just about in tears and i thanked him for his service and said i would pray for him and his family. Wanna know the kicker, I was pulled away from the checkstand by a manager and was told that it was against store policy to share religious material with the customer and i should not have asked him about his "disorder" as they put it. She threatened to write me up and you know what i did? Quit right there on the spot.

This is WAYYY off topic i know but im just trying to explain how much this country has changed and how shitty this new generation can be.
