    A fourth-grader in Washington, D.C. was charged with drug possession after bringing cocaine to school and sharing it with other students, authorities said. Four students at Thomson Elementary School either sniffed or swallowed an unknown amount of the drug and were taken to a hospital after complaining they were ill on Thursday. Police later determined the substance they ingested was cocaine. D.C. Fire Department spokesman Pete Piringer said the students were fine aside from having sore throats. School Principal Albert DuPont sent a letter home to shocked parents saying child protective services and the police are trying to determine how the child got the cocaine. Authorities did not disclose whether the student is a boy or a girl. “This is not a situation that is typical at Thomson, and we take it very seriously,” DuPont wrote. “At school we will address drug awareness as a whole-school issue.” Stuart Hovell, a parent of a fourth-grader at the school, said the incident was disgusting and that he would send his daughter to a different school next year. “It’s sad. It’s very sad that this is getting into schools,” he said.
     Remember when you went through the D.A.R.E program in 6th grade, how worthless it was? Officer Friendly™ stopped by the school with his four-legged friend and talked about how bad drugs are. You saw some clips and videos then got your D.A.R.E certificate a couple weeks later. Showed it off to your parents, who probably smoked more weed back in the 60′s then you ever have in your life, and hung that certificate up in your room. You’re telling yourself “I’m gonna be drug free”…..
    Fast-forward to high school and your smoking weed before school…at lunch…..after school….and before bed. Honestly, D.A.R.E is a waste of time. If you don’t want kids to do drugs then bus their asses to a drug addict center and let them talk to real-life crackheads. Have those junkies smile for the kids so they can see what some of the hard drugs do to their teeth.

    There were 4 5th graders that were caught smoking weed at the school my son goes to. and there is an 8th grader that is pregnant.

    it's shitty parenting. what good is DARE when there is a stranger telling them that drugs are bad, they don't respect this stranger, being a cop or no. and they sure as hell won't listen to him when they go home and watch mom and dad roll a joint and snort a line. My parents smoked weed and were total idiots, somehow I didn't get messed into it. tryed pot once and never again, first beer on my 21st b-day. hell, I scolded MY PARENTS when I was a teenager dad for smoking pot when I was staying there with my son.

    fuck stupid parents, not fuck DARE. It's not up to the schools to teach the kids everything.
