I am no physics major but it seems like as long as it gained wind resistance it would be possible. I was randomly arguing with a buddy having some drinks when we were out off the 96 in arington, TN wheeling just a little bit ago.

    Anything is possible..

You would need a reallly really big treadmill however.

No, you need airflow over wings to produce lift, your wheels would just spin with no increased air flow.

    mythbusters tested it.
pretty sure they got lift off with a giant tarp like runway that was towed by a truck.

Yea they did it successfully. The plane took off. I didn;t think it would either. Somehow it got lift though.

some planes can fly at 0 mph over land , as long as they have 20-30 mph of wind.

Stationary treadmill and no wind, the plane will not take off. You need air speed to provide lift, that's why things can fly in wind tunnels at no ground speed but plenty of wind speed.

The carrier was turned into the wind at flank speed, thus they had whatever wind there was plus whatever speed the carrier could make.

The combination of these speeds, plus full flaps, provided enough lift over the wings to get airborne...really ballsie.

that conveyor belt could have been going 1000MPH and the plane still would have taken off. the wheels would probably fall off. As long as the plane is rolling before the ground is moving it will everytime. if the plane is physically moving backwards and there is airflow going over the opposite direction of the wing greater than the force being exerted by the engine then no it wouldnt fly until that stall threshold is broken.

you mean wind-mill or tread-mill? not that it really matters.
