if you cannot identify it, get a blood test for lyme, -seriously-

it can and will wreck you if you get lyme and don't know about it
    ---
antibiotics WILL cure lyme, but the problem is:

    a) how long has lyme been doing damage before you stop it

    b) sometimes you cannot easily tolerate the antibiotics, so during
the meds (which can be +6 weeks) you feel like shit constantly

Really though, he is right. Is there any redness around said bite? If there is and it looks like a red ring definitely get it checked. Ive had lyme and been treated before anything bad could happen.

Could be an infected hair follicle. I have gotten one of those with staff infection that I had to take antibiotics for.

If you cant pop it like a zit, just have a doctor look at your ass. Thats always fun.

yeah well, I had something similar

had poison ivy on my shin, and behind the knee

both areas itched, and the behind the knee (little red stripe) was,
to me, just more poison ivy.

WRONG...it cleared up in a month, and 2 weeks after that, had what I thought
    was a 1 day flu...

7 months later I am in emergency getting knee tapped, 80CC of fluid,
2 days later knee tapped again and now on percosets, 1 day later again
in ECU knee tapped. then diagnosed with lyme. 6 weeks doxy, didn't kill it.

had a total of 5 knee taps and they HURT

move on to ceftriaxone, that almost killed me, and a 1 month stay in the
hospital with a PICC line into my heart dripping ceftriaxone and almost
dying with 104 deg fevers, also foot now going numb from nerve damage
in the spine from lyme...since I couldn't tolerate ceftriaxone I went
back to doxy but with a severe diet restriction and double-dose....after
12 weeks of this finally things turned around and my symptoms started
to go away. doxy at this level means 12 solid weeks of 24x7 nausea and
    insomnia...

1.5 years later I am finally able to ride a bicycle again and walk without a severe limp
lyme is 100% cured but I have a few new knee clicks and pops I will never get rid of...
perma-damage from having a swollen knee for 10 months straight.

do NOT FUCK WITH GUESSWORK get tested ticks carrying lyme
    and other diseases are everywhere.

    I now
    a) dose up with deep woods off and
    b) use lighted mirrors to check everywhere after I shower
from coming in out of the woods
    c) I PREACH to everyone who will listen lyme is not to be fucked with, and it can sneak
    right in on you

if anything I was lucky my knee blew up...I could have been someone with just a slow
degrading health and nothing suddenly severe enough to get checked, then I would
    really be screwed
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was also very lucky that my doctor was a worldwide TOP doctor in infectious diseases,
used to be on the CDC, teaches at two medical schools, expert in Lyme....
and he did not bullshit me whatsoever, right from the start he said:

"we can cure this but the road you need to travel varies between individuals, and we
have to throw antibiotics at it, and it is up to your body to tolerate these doses
for these durations. It will be cured but it will NOT be fun." he was spot on.

people sometimes have lyme for years before diagnosis, and yet again, they can cure
the lyme, but these people can have permanent nerve damage everywhere and anywhere,
usually the base of the brain and spinal cord, causing lifetime digestion, endocrine, nerve, mental,
fatigue issues. lyme is gone but the damage remains. I got off lucky I will tell ya !

well damn dude! yeah i’ll give it a day or 2 and see if it clears up. i got to thinking where it may have happened. and i think it may have happened either at my friends house or my brothers when i was helping clean up a tree. I don’t think it is from a tic, i have had a tic bite before. and i have never had a tic at my house or my friends house.(he only lives .8 miles a way)

I think it’s a bug bite or maybe a zit, if it don’t clear up in a few days i’ll go to the doc.

well, a full blood test is cheap insurance. and a round of doxycycline
in the first month of a bite is usually just one morning and one evening
of a fat dose (200 or 400) and it is fixed.

it is when it sets up after some months it becomes difficult to
go through the amount of antibiotics needed to cure it...because the
antibiotics have to get through the blood/brain barrier and to do
that you basically swim in it for weeks on end
