    Sounds like that civic owner just put a new motor in and it had other mods from previous owner in texas. Unless your handy with a wrench, I wouldn't want to take someone else's project. Could get lucky and everything was done right. But the little things may bite you, never know.

    if youre budget is about 4k, why not a 5 lug tacoma or pretacoma?

    Trail Gear Front bumper, Warn, SPC, OME 881, Dakars, Raven topper, PIAA fog lights, dog mod and a couple other things...
    I had a Mazda 3 for my commuter car. Was a blast to drive but doubt if you could find one in your price range. Second choice - Corolla/Civic. Good luck.

    I think my budget is more around 5-6k now. Thinking of taking a look at a '07 Honda Fit tomorrow.

    Thanks guys, looks like I'm gonna end up buying an '03 Honda Civic hybrid off of my dad. It gets 50mpg:D
