TcBob once went to a midget wrestling match. There he met a midget sumo wrestler named Mr. Satoshi. Mr. Satoshi couldn't find much work, so Bob have him a side gig working on his truck. Mr. Satoshi ended up building the first Satoshi on Bob's truck. People liked it so much that they soon had a fan club because of the grill. Bob expanded that fan club to the Internet and created Tacomaworld. At least I think that's how it went.

    none for now
Here is what I see as the most plausible origin after doing some online investigation. River Rat 69 earlier provided a detailed description already on this forum, but here is a condensed telling.

    "Satoshi" is Satoshi Miura.
He is a Japanese business man and Hilux owner, who first modded a grill to replace the Toyota logo with the name plate. He is not a Toyota Motor Corporation designer or employee. Legend has it that this picture (linked to a Yotatech forum) started the global clamor for the grill. I know I want one.

Almost all attribution to Satoshi Miura as the "Satoshi Grill" originator traces back to a 4Runners.Org post by user Bob_98SR5. Bob lives in LA but hasn't posted on Yotatech since 2008.

    Bob_98SR5 on 4Runners.Org
      • His write up Post
        • Dated: 2/15/04
        • As noted, he pursued Mr. Miura by email and heard back from him
        • The link to Bob's description of Mr. Miura is broken, but River Rat 69 captured it earlier..

Seems like the best explanation I can find. Too bad for Satoshi there was no way he could copyright the design!

    Cheers, James
