I think it's great. Respectful and well deserved. Nothing wrong with it at all. I've had it happen to me a few times at work. It's a nice feeling to know people appreciate what you do. Be nice to see that happen more often.

The one fucking time the guy need a HAND out. Sorry, That was a total dick move and horrible joke and should be chastised for it now.

In all Honesty though i think Handout is a bad word to use when referring to helping and aiding those that are or have family members serving for the armed forces. Helping out and being a good citizen is much better, Hell even just an outstanding neighborly friend.

Hand-out is just a nasty word when you say it about helping those in need because they are busy fighting for us.

I'm not complaining about the pay. I do fairly well and have termendous pride in what i do, hence my reaction the the handout phrase. Mortgage is paid and my bills are paid, better than what a lot of other people can say. That isn't because of the military, thats about making the right choices.
But when someone calls it a handout, basically compairing it to welfare, I get quite angry about that. The military isn't overpaid and for the most part it isn't underpaid (depending on job and location). The pay and benifits that service members get is earned every step of the way. I realize you weren't intending to give the impression that was made. Sorry to hear about your friend. My heart goes out to him.

I must have seen something different, They were digital blue and black. Had an air force logo on it. Looked very respectful and stealthy as fuck.

There have been many examples that the military has looked at. They were going to have every branch wear the same uniform for a while, but that got stopped quick haha

He could be thinking Air Force. Here is an example that the Air Force looked at when they were phasing out BDU's

Hmm, pretty sure he didn't retire at under 30. You have to be in for at least 20 years before you can retire.

I don't thank them or shake their hand because I'm not that outgoing, but I occasionally buy their lunch. My favorite Korean restaurant is near the base, lunches are cheap, and there's always a few one or two stripe Airmen stopping in. The waitress knows, I just point to there table when I'm leaving, and she puts it on my bill, I can slip out, and they have no idea who bought em lunch.

Just a few little things. It's my DD
Not weird, I had many people do this to me while I was in. Made me a little uncomfortable, but that's cause strangers freak me out a little. But I think it is a very nice gesture.

not weird. Just a little for me though. I am paranoid as hell. I don't walk around in uniform. I do appreciate the appreciation though. just prefer to not give anyone the chance to recognize me as military. :spy:

And just to add my.02 cents to the handout thing......

Corporations, local venues, and other large groups donate several things to the military. rules dictate that the military can't use the donations. so instead of throwing them away or refusing them, they are offered to the members. furthermore, most higher ranking peoples won't take them because they know the younger members can use it more. pay scales are visible to everyone and it is apparent that we don't exactly make bank. not enlisted anyhow, and especially not lower enlisted. So with that being said, it is more like getting a little bonus every now and then. That is my opinion on the matter.

You're not weird to show appreciation.. Believe me it's much better than some negative feedback from being military.. Everybody's entitled to there opinions on whatever, but as far as military service goes, you don't know what it's like until you have done it yourself... There's plenty of people out there who look down on or treat our military poorly, which isn't right. So to have anybody even think to thank, is to me appreciated.. Screw what people think, if that's what you wana do, good on yah.
