Severe Weather thread.

We get some pretty nasty fires north of where I live. That looks terrible though because it hit so many homes.. at least ours are usually more in the middle of nowhere

 

We had a fire earlier this summer come though just a couple hours from my house that ended up burning just over 200,000 acres

Holy crap. That looks like a scene from a nightmare.
I will have to dig through my box of pictures and find the ones of the damage done to my place by hurricane Isobel.

It's not severe, but low 70's in late Oct. Is unusual

 

Me too. Put new front brakes, springs, shocks, and manual locking hubs in the plow truck over the weekend. Now I just need to change the oil in it and it'll be good to go for whatever Ma Nature & Old Man Winter feel like throwing my way.

X2. Opening day of rifle season for deer is on Saturday. Doesn't seem accurate, with the weather we've been having around here. Too warm.

 

I just bought a snow blower, lifted my truck, and my wife now has 4WD. BRING IT ON!!!

What temps would you suggest I need one? My garage stays above freezing for the most part even in the most bitter cold days around here.

 

Yeah, these warm temps are crazy. 76 tomorrow here. But then it drops again. Predicting 40's for high on Saturday right now.

 

Meh. In KC I can't imagine you'd ever need one. Even last year before I had a garage to park in and that crazy cold winter with many a night below 0, my truck was parked outside and just fine.

 

If you use Synthetic oil it isn't as bad as dino oil.

I would get one if you plan on being in sub 10 degrees F frequently. Also, an oil pan heater practically does the same thing (if not better imho) and is easier to install. Mine came with a block heater.

 

Agreed with this. Ive never had an issue with temperatures in kc and ive always parked outside.

Yeah, I park in the garage, too, and it doesnt seem to get much below freezing in there.

 

Yeah, those are only needed in northern states and Canada etc... where its well below 0, even for the high. Being garage kept is a big bonus in the winter.

 

I've never had a block heater on any of my vehicles, and they always start. Even my diesel tractor starts when it's really really cold out; it's just grouchy about it. And I have to let it idle for about 20 minutes before I can do anything with it, or else the hydraulics are s.......l.......o.......w.......w.......w.......w.......

 

I've found that -30 is about the limit without a block heater. You will want a battery blanket of some sort at those temps though.

 

high of 55 and rain tomorrow and possibly turning to snow tomorrow night into sat morning with high of 44 saturday, quite happy about it ready for it to get below 55* just needs to stay cold and not do the high 50’s one day and 75+ the next.
