I'm guessing around 65 pounds--I go by feel more than weight usually. He was a stray and went through heartworm treatment, so at this point he may just need more to help him heal internally and also to get himself back to normal. He is also extremely active, and Diamond Naturals is a good quality food--I did my research. :D It has a very good protein to fat ratio with no corn or wheat or "animal digest." Duncan went through much the same thing (also a HW+ stray) with much the same metabolism, and I was able to reduce the amount after he finally started gaining a bit too much weight and had healed more.

I think so too--he started out as a foster, and when his previous foster Mom told me how much he ate, I about fell over. Duncan started out at around 4.5 cups per day when I first got him, and once his coat grew back and he had been here awhile (I'm assuming that everything was healing internally as well) and he had gained more weight back that he needed, he started gaining too much on 4.5 per day, so I tapered him back and he is maintaining on 1.5 twice per day very well. I'm assuming that James will do the same thing once his coat is back to normal (he has a few hot spots where I can see skin and his undercoat it thin) and he heals internally from the HW, then he, too, will not need so much food. Sometimes its not the food though--its the special circumstances of the dog. Connar at 56 lbs eats 1 cup twice per day (and that's pushing it--even though he is the lowest weight, he is the "fattest" although he isn't fat yet), Duncan eats the 1.5 I mentioned earlier at 63 lbs. James is the biggest size-wise. If he were a rough coat he would look HUGE! LOL!
