First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Washed my truck, cleaned the front windshield to a sparking clean, left the wipers in pop-out position to dry. Opened the hood to check fluids... Doh !!!

Never open the hood with the wipers in the pop-out position.

Now I have white vehicle paint from the rear edge of my hood on my wipers, and worse I am missing this pain from where it belongs.

    Lesson learned.

Thought I'd see if there were others out there that might have done something stupid today and wanted to share so we can avoid their pitfalls.

I stripped out the ATF overfill plug. Now I can't check my AT fluid level...

I think it's close to right...

Lesson: Replace that crappy looking plug instead trying to reuse it.

It wasn't today, but when I was rebuilding the engine in my Taco, I was storing all of my parts in the back of the truck. Somewhere along the way, I knocked over a thing of wall paper glue, (the previous owner had left it, among many other things, in the back of the truck) didn't notice until I was pulling the last parts out of the truck and stuck my hand in something slimy and half congealed. Had to take everything else out of the truck and rinse it out-some of it had already hardened, though, and that had to be scraped out with a knife!

Oh, and when I was first putting oil in the truck after the rebuild, I decided to not use a funnel. It was fine until my buddy's dog ran into my legs- then I spilt a good bit of oil (like half the bottle) on my nice painted block and hand polished valve cover. D: Sopped it all up with a rag, but because the engine was already back in the truck, there were some parts I couldn't reach. Hoping it doesn't lead to the paint stripping off!
