Totally agree. Beyond upset to see a defenseless animal get that kinda treatment.

there are some pretty fucking mean dogs out there. especially when the fucking thing weighs just as much as you do, runs twice as fast, and bites with 500-600 lbs of pressure. i love dogs, would rather see most people get hurt than helpless dogs, but when they act like this, come on man. cops dont shoot to kill, they shoot to stop the threat. notice how the officer didnt walk over and put a round in the dogs head after he already hit it, because the threat was stopped. do i think less-lethal could have worked? i.e. beanbags, wood blocks, simunitions? yeah, but when youre on scene of a barricaded subject, with a hostage, the last thing in your hand is a bean-bag gun. you have to agree somewhat that the cops did the right thing. what if the dog did the same thing to someone else, would it be ok for that person to shoot it? yes.

How bout just put out a hand and give a command? You can see how that seemed to work before the ass hat put a round in the pup.

I saw the dog retreat and then advance then jump and snap...How many times are you going to wave your hand at it and wait for it to strike or see if it calms down??

He didn't attack, he just barked. Saddens me that you see this as the right thing.

So what constitutes an attack?? Do teeth have to meet flesh to count?? Is there a distance or amount of time before it's an attack??

Because when I see a dog that large rear up, bark, and snap...I see an attack that just hasn't caused injury yet.

that may work for the master, but not someone that the dog that thinks cops are hurting its master. rotts are loyal and will protect to the end. remember these cops work with rotts and shepherds they know what their capable of doing. if they handeled the situation differently and got bit they would of been in trouble by superiors.

lol a lot people here fail to realize if you are going to fight or threaten a cop the fight isn't going to be fair. He is going to take the appropriate measures to protect his life and maintain the upper hand in the situation. There's no time to mess around with a taser or mace that could've potentially not worked.

Would beating the damn thing in the head with a baton make you feel any better?

Damn... as an animal lover, that video was tough to watch. So many things were done wrong by all involved in my opinion. No one was clean in that mess and unfortunately the dog paid the price for everyone's mistakes. The dog owner was being an idiot to gain the cop's attention in the first place, secondly, when they came over he had a half assed attempt at securing his dog, cops should have made the man secure his dog better when they cuffed him, then, once the dog got out, that situation could have been handled better by letting the owner go to his dog and lastly, the officer who ultimately shot the dog made a step toward the dog and that seemed to set him off and that seemed to make him attack. Once attacked, I can't say I blame the officer for reacting like he did but this was just a series of horrible decisions that all came down on that poor dog :(

Just a bad situation all around really :( Not the dogs fault, not the policeman's fault, just a dumbass owner pushing his limits.

Everyone keeps suggesting to let the owner out of the cuffs like it's no big deal.
The most dangerous time while cuffing someone is JUST as you put the cuffs on - People are compliant and right up until you touch them are okay to work with - Then the cuffs touch skin and they recoil...All of the sudden a simple compliant cuffing is a full on fight.

Once the cuffs go on - They don't come off until the officer is SURE the situation is weighted in his/her favor.

what were the police putting the man under arrest for?

...at some point he knew the cops were walking toward him for some kind of contact, ...so he put the dog in the car, perhaps a good move so as to remove any kind of perceived threat... probably didn't have time to roll the windows up, etc...

PS - Don't get me wrong....I think the dog is the victim 100%. If you watch the video the owner is more intent on making a spectacle of himself than paying attention to the dog, has trouble getting the dog to pay attention and get in the car. Not to mention the fact that those extendable leashes don't meet the 6 feet leash requirement that I'm about 90% sure exists in that area.
Piss poor dog owner and what was probably a greta pet paid the price for it.

Obstruction. He had loud music playing and was bouncing around the middle of that street and yelling at police, all of which was interfering with the ongoing police activity IRT the armed robbery.
