Nowhere in Federal law does it say that Texas gets some special concessions to fly it's flag at the same height as the American flag... That's a total bullshit urban legend. Per US Code, any single state flag may be flown at the same height as the US flag, so long as there are not multiple state flags flying. If there is a group of state flags flying with the US flag, the US flag will be in the middle, and be the highest. http://uscodebeta.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title4-section7&num=0&edition=prelim see if you can find anything in there that mentions the Texas flag...

Texas contributes the most people to the armed forces simply because it has the second largest population behind California. Per capita, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Maine, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Florida all contribute more personnel to the armed forces than Texas does.

1st off since when was OH part of the south? imo south east is from KY down, and from the Mississippi river to the coast.

    Bone stock for now....

Thanks for the update. Since you took my bait regarding the use of population to determine military personnel contributions, allow me to build on your argument, despite the fact that my analysis was based on data from 2012 and yours was 2007.

The data clearly shows that of the 10 largest states, only two remain in the top ten when this data is sorted by per capita, Texas and Florida. When I checked my stats using more recent data, Texas was the only state that ranked in the top ten in both population and per capita, Florida dropped way off.

If my memory serves me correct, the largest state, California, performed horribly in both categories, which serves to weaken the correlation that military personnel contribution by state is largely population driven.

Regarding my flag reference, based on best available data on the internet, you appear to be correct and I have learned something and I am not beyond admitting that. I stand corrected.

In the interest of brotherly love, why don't we forget about military personnel, flag law and just throw Texas a fucking bone because our beloved trucks are built here?

Care to post up your source for what you are referencing? I just spent a few minutes with the google box and couldnt find anything more recent than 2010, which was only for the Army. As far as California is concerned, I don't think that state's under-representation surprises anyone, nor does that of New York. Clearly, based upon that map and all other data I've found, military contribution is based far more upon the politics of the state than anything else.

But yes, I agree, go Toyota workers in Texas!

And the politics of the state is representative of the demographic makeup of it's major population centers, not that of the state as a whole.

Yes I do, grew up in the Charlottesville area and love this whole mid-west section of the state. The valley is nice but I love the GW national forest where we can take our painfully, yet enjoyably slowly created trucks off to the hills and use them as truly intended!!

its not 'invalid"... I tried to divide the U.S. up into smaller options than just East Coast, Mid-West, and West Coast... so between the East Coast comes "East of the Mississippi but not the east coast (north)".. or south

How about standard convention that most people use....

1 - Southeast (East coast south of Virginia)
2 - Mid Atlantic (Virginia to New York)
    3 - Northeast/New England
4 - South (South of the Mason-Dixon line)
    5 - Texas
6 - Midwest (North of the Mason-Dixon line, east of the Rockies)
7 - Mountain States (Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho)
8 - Southwest (Nevada, AZ, New Mexico)
    9 - California
    10 - Northwest (Oregon, Washington)
    11 - Hawaii
    12 - Alaska

Could have done that without having Chris add a 13th category.
You could even combine Alaska and Hawaii into "Newbies" and create "Potato" just for Idaho!

Depends on which coast of the UK he's on.

Then again... if he's on the east coast of the UK then he's west of the Mississippi and east coast.

Depends on whether you are measuring by distance, or considering the meridian that runs through Greenwich. Everything is "east" of the UK's east coast, and everything is west of the UK's west coast.
    Bite me. :)

Jees people, stop whining just because OP didn't do 50 states, one district, multiple territories, every Canadian province, 500 military bases, and 400 other countries.
