Any product recommendations for a new pup?

Hey all,

My gf and I just adopted this awesome 9-week old lab mix named Gracie over the weekend. We immediately went on an adventure to Flagstaff and she loved it! Just wondering what products you guys use for dogs in your truck that you swear by!

Beautiful!
In short, seat covers, floor liners, door panel protectors. Also a seat belt to protect the dog AND you in an accident

I swear by the dog transport mod. Here's mine, it's a variation of an idea I stole from another member. Keeps fur and mud off the seats and creates a nice space for my guy to travel.

Is that carpeting? Or a floor mat?

I bought a hammock/seat cover for Bailey to use, by Kurgo. But when the seats are folded flat she roams everywhere! When they're in normal seat position, she sits down like a passenger and doesn't move.

OP, there's lots of dog lovers here and there's several threads about dog proofing your truck if you have time to burn. Lots of great ideas.

It's just a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet. I need to put some velcro on the back where it's folding down though it does stay in place due to the hooks behind the seat. It just keeps the fur off of the seats, you can see I do have Wet Okole covers, and they do a great job protecting the seats but they collect dog hair and no one would actually want to sit back there after my dog has been on a trip.

Normally, I tip the other part of the seat forward so he can't keep running back and forth from window to window. Once I hit the highway or a steady speed, he usually just lays down and goes to sleep. I like my setup because if I go hard on the brakes, he can't fall forward off of the seat. There's no 'void' for him to fall into and the seat bottom creates a barrier between him and the front seats and also something for him to lean against.

So the hammock-type seats are good for protecting them flying forward in the event of an accident or slamming on the breaks?

I was looking at this one because I like the way it's designed and the functionality of it...

http://www.amazon.com/Solvit-62283-Deluxe-Bench-Cover/dp/B000GL8HNA/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1M5YV3ZKM1JV 1&coliid=ISH0PEO1G1NOK

But I really should be looking for something like this to truly protect her probably...

They are good for keeping the dog from hitting the floor in a quick brake. Won't help in an accident, which is why I suggested a seat belt harness.

Honestly, the best protection for a dog while traveling would be offered from a crate.

Leather Seats
A can of Fabreeze in the truck at all times
A roll of poop bags, and not the cheap ones you get at the grocery store (find a local dog park that supplies bags and take a handful )
Ruff Wear Flat Out Leash - doubles as a collar and leash combo, can be clipped around trees, benches, bed tie downs... whatever. Extremely worthwhile
Ruff Wear Quencher Cinch Top Water Bowl - Stays in truck, always full, and less waste than the one I saw in the photos.
Ruff Wear Polar Trex Boots - Seriously, a friend got a lab and got him used to wearing them all the time, from day one, and the dog almost loves them. On the other hand, I waited a couple years before getting my set, and my rotti hates wearing them. Also, the ones linked that wrap up above the pup's ankle tend to be much harder for them to shake off and lose.
Ruff Wear Swamp Cooler Vest - comes in handy on hot days

Also have to second the camper shell... Truck bed is my girl's second home.
First home is the pass side rear seat folded down.

When I have kids, our dog will be crated in the bed under a Softopper. When she is wet she will be crated in the bed also, but no Softopper yet.

I definitely will look into the swamp cooler vest and cinch top water bowl! Those seem like necessities for trail blazing and for AZ in general (the swamp cooler vest) Thanks!

That's a steal! I'll look into that. I am planning on getting the Wet Okole's at some point but if it's that cheap I'll get this until then!

At some point I'm hoping for a camper shell with some carpet in the back (probably will custom make a removable carpet liner that I can take out when I need to have things such as dirt/rocks/etc. in the bed). Since it's so hot in AZ though during the summer this may not work, or I could possibly have the rear center window open and mount a fan that circulates the cold air from inside the cab to the camper. Just don't know if it would be enough.
