One thing about healthcare and one reason why we as Americans get screwed as the result of the current system. Its no joke that a company like Novo-Nordisk or Phizer sells the exact same drugs in Asia, Europe, and Canada for a fraction of what they charge us in the US. Why? Because American companies fund healthcare for their workers, thus those companies charge whatever they want, hence our companies actually pay for the healthcare of OTHER people in OTHER countries. Sound fair? That gives new meaning to the term nationalized healthcare because if we were to go to such a system, drug companies would be forced to restructure their pricing, thus charging the same globally, costing we the taxpayers less, and saving money in the long term.

valid argument. with outsourcing being so cheap, i have a feeling in order to compete Americans will stop seeing health insurance being paid for by the companies in my lifetime (with the exception of the higher ups and VIP's) Insurance for all workers will soon be a thing of the past i'm afraid.

The problem is growing enough crop for the current demand. For example, if you could plant Palms (which is currently the highest producing biocrop), it would take a land mass the size of California, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico to provide the US demand for oil. Unfortunately, Palm doesn't grow well here. The one that grows best in the US is corn, which is about 1/5 as efficient as Palm. Plus, your fuel supply is now tied to the weather.

    Another crop is soy:
Matthew Brown, currently an Energy Consultant, argues that "replacing only five percent of the nation's diesel consumption with biodiesel would require diverting approximately 60 percent of today's soy crops to biodiesel production."

Sarah's just not my type at all. Nothing really there to "love" if you know what I mean. I still find it hard to believe so many people like her because she's probably the biggest reason Mccain lost since she acted like an airhead.I was just imaging if Mccain had gotten elected and she was deealing with Vladmir Putin. It would've gone like this:

    Palin
    Putin: Blank stare in amazement.

you know, i've heard alot of people say that. personally, i think McCain lost because McCain ran. i dont think he ever had a chance against obama. he would have beat hillary but obama is way too personable and McCain was too old and too many people associate him with Bush. the republican party has a huge black eye at the moment

My socialist values implore me to stay. That and the skiing is too good where I live.

You should come up here. It's colder so nipples stick out on hot women more often and our beer is the same price but gets you drunk quicker.

+1. Palin was the only reason, in my opinion, McCain got as many votes as he did. Obama won because the conservative party didn't have a conservative candidate.

Oh, I LOVE her accent! She's SMOKIN' hot!

I know I'm opening a big ole' can of worms, but two things killed Mccain: Palin, and the economy. I was actually kind of interested in what he would do until he picked her. It was so obvious that he had a simple thought:

But he obviously didn't do much research on her because she was not a good pick and did not "show" well in public in regards to her rhetoric. Had he chosen someone else, maybe things would've been different.

Secondly, the economy killed his campaign. Thirdly, he focused too much on his solid base and not swing voters and independents.Sure- Its easy to preach to the folks who hate and always will hate democrats and "liberals", but much more effective to attract admiration from those who are fence sitters and objective. He didn't do this and the mud slinging got ridiculous towards the end there and that turned off the remaining moderates and independents. Fourthly the Obama campaign was one hell of a machine when it came to advertising, online activity, and marketing. Mccain's was pretty old-fashioned.Ever see Mccain's site? Well I'm a web designer by trade and his site looked like it was made by college students.

Honestly, I think Mccain would've probably been a fairly moderate Republican and had he won would be faced with the same difficult decision of coming up with drastic, emergency solutions even if they were unpopular. So yes, I respect him, but if he had to run again, his smartest choice would be to fire the campaign manager and go with his gut intuitions.

Agreed... McCain's campaign sucked and Obama's was a machine. But the problem with Palin was when the McCain campaign stopped letting her be herself and made her continue spewing the same old tired stuff. If she could have just been herself, they MIGHT actually have won!

Also, yes McCain would have been a VERY moderate Republican, but that's the problem! There wasn't much of a difference between him and the Democrats. What we needed was a very strong, fiscally conservative President. I could care less about most everything else, but at the end of the day, the federal government is TOOO big. Less taxes. Smaller government. Cut the government by about 80% and we'll have a great start!

Alberta is the Texas of Canada. I'm not even exaggerating. Beef, prairies and beer. The plus side as I said is we have the Rockies.

Nowhere in Canada is as conservative rightwing. You'd fit right the fuck in. Trust me.
I may not be conservative, but I'm a prairie boy at heart and I love the mountains.

People SHOULD have their buy their own health insurance.

One of the problems we face is the idea that health insurance should be there to pay for doctors visits and prescriptions and x-rays, etc... Insurance is to cover you in the case of disasters! It's when you expect all these things from your insurance policy, that's when the premium goes hella high! I have had my own insurance coverage for the last few years because I'm a contractor. So, I've had to shop around for it. If you actually look, it's not that expensive! I pay about $75/month and have a $500 deductible. No copays, no prescription drugs, etc... When I fractured my collar bone, the doctors visit only cost me about $120. That was the exam, a few x-rays, etc... People always think that every doctors visit is gonna be thousands of dollars.

If everyone had to go out on the open market to purchase health insurance, competition would drive the price even lower.

Just a fundamental difference in what "insurance" is supposed to do.....

No one has a "right" to a damn thing here except opportunity...if they are a legal citizen.

How are other countries not dictating what we do here with all the removal of bibles & such to not offend other religions, can't say Christmas, forcing us to learn another language because many that come here don't wanna learn english, forcing us to pay for non citizens education, food, deporture, medical & so on? Why the fuck shouldn't we tell other people what to do to some degree that we rescue when they are in trouble for whatever reason, that make livings for their citizens off what we provide & all the money we pay them just to ACT like they like us.

There is just too much backwards ass shit goin on here that we'd be gettin killed for goin to another country & acting like & demanding shit without even being a citizen. Try taking a drivers test in english in let's say.....Russia. Think that would happen? Fuck no. We need to reel in all the waste going abroad & tighten up our shit like others do against us & become self sufficient once again. Whose gonna cover all the shit we do for the rest of the world when we can't? Nobody. Whose gonna come to our aid when we need it? No fuckin body. Then maybe all these asswipes around the globe that hate us will have a legit reason to when we can't save their asses for them again.

I agree. The problem is too much demand. The reason they put co-pay's into insurance policies to begin with was because even that little amount made some people reconsider going to the doctor unless they needed it. However, the copay has pretty much been the same since the 1980s so it doesn't dissuade people from going, so they go for any sniffle, which ties up resources. Scarce resources = higher costs.

I almost never go to the doctor except for annual physicals. For me, the best benefit would be medical savings accounts with an insurance policy like yours to cover catastrophic accidents/illnesses. When it's a persons own money being used to cover medical costs, they'll probably shop around for a doctor they can afford.
