I was wearing swim trunks and barefoot hanging out in the back yard with my wife & kid. My kid's plastic tractor kept hanging up on bumps in the yard so I took it into the shop to give it some better entry & departure angles, which took 10 seconds, then I dropped the grinder and it spun off the floor into my foot.

I was going to man it out and just wrap it tight, but limited foot movement made me decide I should probably go make sure no tendon's got cut. Seems I got REAL lucky this time.

I want to thank my grinder for heading toward me instead of my 2 year old, and also duct tape...

if you're waiting for parts...you can add a few more days to the wait :-(

PICS (sorry for the small phone pics)
    1) Scene of the crime, blood spots and grinder marks on the floor.
    2) Got my leg and toe.
    3) Guts
    4) 3 internal stitches and 5 outside, 2 on toe lol

The wheel did split all up, which may have saved me some. Not as thin.

I think we've all been bitten by the grinder once or twice.

I cut a nice gash in my finger with a cutoff wheel the other day. One of the fabricators I work with calls them suicide wheels for obvious reasons.

Sorry about the carnage...but gotta admit I laughed at "better entry & departure angles" for a plastic tractor... :D

yeah every now and then these things give you a warning on just how dangerous they are. If they're not throwing sparks at your eyes, or hot metal into your body, or dust up your nose, they're catching and coming at you.

Of course I remove the guards immediately since they're practically useless with them. But this time I was just hurrying and dropped it.

Allowing my son to be 3 feet away from me was the stupidest thing I've ever done. A real wake up call!!

Worst I've ever done is pick wires out of my knee from the wire wheel.

Also, this is why I never set the grinder down till it's come to a full and complete stop. Same goes for circular saws. I've carried enough peoples fingers and toes in my pockets from emerge calls I don't need to do the same with my own.

Its probably a good thing it didn't shatter, causing shrapnel. Definitely makes me think twice about all the stupid shit I've done without my little one around.

    Fuck!!!!

Speaking of.. I made a rescue the other day on a dude sitting on his front porch with a 2x4 sitting in his lap and he decided it would be a good idea to cut it with a skill saw IN HIS FUCKING LAP. Didn't turn out so well for him. But he is a contender for the Darwin Awards this year.

Glad it wasn't worse man. And really glad it didn't go after your son.

False. Chemicals in duct tape will eat at your skin. Electrical tape is a much better choice.
