    That polar vortex example from jan 21 1985, shown on wikipedia...I WELL remember that one. It was -20 here that morning, and some areas on the west side of the Appalachians set all time low temperature records of as low as -27. I hope I never see that again. This winter's (2014) lowest reading here was -4, back in jan. That day in 1985 the high temp was only about 3 or 4...

    because I'm a chemistry student, who works in a biology lab, with the end goal being to become an organic synthesis "scientist"
