Indeed, have done the same, and is was why I keep 60 bucks tucked/hidden in my truck, typically only carry 20-30 bucks in the wallet

    It's definitely a generational thing. :)

I'm from the old days when coins actually had intrinsic silver and copper value, paper money could be exchanged for silver... and Americans were ashamed to need credit and embarrassed not to own their possessions.

Today, coins are just tokens, bills are just script controlled by the Federal Reserve, and most money is electronic bytes... and people are proud of their ability to borrow money because they believe that debt is capital when it's actually the lack of it.

    HEY!
    I carry cash, and I'm only 29.
I didn't even OWN a credit card until I was probably 24 or 25 and realized that I couldn't get a decent interest rate on a house unless I had SOME credit history.

That's true. I'm just an old fashioned American. ;)
I buy the cheapest new base model vehicles with no options for cash, and then keep them for a long time. ( My last Tacoma was 17 years old when I sold it.) And not having to pay the full retail price for a home made it possible to build one for cash. Solvency is an obsolete word that has been almost completely expunged from our language. A deadbeat debtor government is only a symptom of its deadbeat debtor citizens.

I have a mortgage, does that make me a deadbeat debtor?

I've kept a C-note tucked away in my wallet forever. It has come in handy countless times. Like being 500 miles from home and having a cash machine eat my card; or travelling through Podunk NV and stopping for lunch and not seeing the cash only sign on the cash register; being on the road and having to get something fixed where cash lubricates the schedule. Never can tell when a few bucks can come in handy.

    Mortgage?!:smack:

I have one too. I pay extra on it as often as I can afford it, because whenever I look at how much I still owe and convert it into paychecks divided by my hourly wage I feel a little :goingcrazy::help::annoyed:

    I have no idea.

It's just the general observation that the government's insolvency matches the insolvency of most of its citizens. The government doesn't just get that way all by itself. It is only a reflection of how most people live. And it's how most people live that creates the government in their own image.
