I prefer more conventional methods of finding funding rather than beg random people on the internet.

I wouldn't, but then again I had a bad experience with a friend using it to get herself a new car (like I give a fuck about what you drive) and begging all of Facebook for donations.

should someone have a worthwhile endeavor I might consider it but there's no return either so it's like a one way investment

My brother inlaw is an artist, we are not selling art we will sell them as Tshirts we have a facebook page, but this is a beginning stage indevor i am currently each night putting his artwork in on scanner and converting the pencil drawings into fine dark lines that can been screen printed. the art we have is semi abstract, but when we look to do our kickstarter we look to have a full return to our customers. we want to do a $20,000 pledge and a pledge of 20 or higher would get you a shirt. we have 5 different shirts that we would like to use. stickers for a pledge of $10. and hoodie, hat, and T-shirt for $? but neither here or there the equiptment is not that expensive but would need a sufficent ammount of capitol to start the business. i deffintly want to get a good fallowing before we launch the kickstarter.

It's not a one way investment with kickstarter, technically, because depending on how much you pledge you get something in return but that's for the person to decide.

I have a product idea that I'm in the initial planning stages of. Though, I need to make a prototype and do some more research and potentially get myself a patent before I go on to kickstarter. Just in case someone decides to steal it.
