Was kind of wondering.... My cousin moved from here(saskatoon,Canada) to Dayton, Ohio(she married some guy from there) She made $35 dollars an hour here as a registered nurse. Now shes telling me she is having a really hard time finding a decent job and is working at a mattress store for under $8 an hour i couldnt believe it!!!
Minimum wage is here $10-11 dollars. Are wages really that low there?
    please enlighten me.

$7.25 is minimum on the federal level. Some states may have it slightly higher.

Yeah under 8 is normal for entry level jobs. I made 5.15 an hour when I was 15, just 8 years ago.

Ya wow. That's defiantly low. I guess stuff is cheaper ie jug of milk here is like 5-6 dollars...Gas is also expensive here. I honestly thought she was kidding when she said under $8/hr.

What are housing prices like there?
Average price for a home here is just under $400 000cdn

I can get a decent 3 bed 2 bath house on about 1/8th acre for under 200k here in the Columbus, Ohio area.

Was just thinking of this as well, cost of living is pretty expensive here, but in terms of making below the poverty line, I think both Canada, and US are pretty close to each of there own poverty lines with minimum wage.

However, I do think there are less jobs here such as a nurse, or paramedic, that get paid less than or close to minimum wage. Usually getting paid a lot more.

Minimum wage only applies to non-tipping jobs. In high school I worked at the Red Robin for $2.12 an hour. Never saw a paycheck but made out pretty well only having a small phone bill to pay.

    You're 23! where's my damn cookie?

Its 8.25 (maybe 8.15?) in Cali

I am not sure how the degree transfers work in RN's but in order to be a doctor in the US you have to now (recent change I believe) have a degree from an American school. Could be the reason she can't find a job :notsure:

Have you looked at Tacoma prices in Ohio? :D They aren't paying $1500 freight, either.
