My wife and I are thinking about upgrading to a smartphone and we've always paid the device insurance for $7 a month perline (2). I was talking to my brother at Christmas and he says he doesn't pay any device insurance through his cell company. He gets theirs through share trade or something like that. I was wondering how many of ya'll have the device insurance through your cell provider, have insurance through share trade or something similar, or you just don't have device insurance?

No insurance for me, never had the need either. We always keep our old phones so if I ever do drop or break my current one, there is a backup to use while I figure out how to deal with it.

Also, there are countless stores that will replace a broken or cracked screen for a minimal charge.

When I bought my smartphone thru Costco's, I purchased the $99 Square Trade Warranty from Costco.
It provided 3 replacements for anything reason, smashed screen, DOA, water, whatever.
I totally smashed my phone (Razr Maxx HD) and Square Trade sent me $649 via paypal to replace my phone wherever I wanted.....
all I had to do was send in the broken phone within 3 days & register the new phone serial number once replaced.
The 649 was less my $50 deductible and was replacement value.
    It worked awesome.
    That is my experience.

I have my insurance thru verizon. but i think i may drop it. I have an iphone 5s, and i can go to appl and get a new phone from them for free or for a $50 fee. what i hate is you pay the $7 or $10 a month to say verizon and than you have to pay $50 to use it and get a referb phone.

with my iphone if it’s a soft wear problem or something they will replace the phone for free for 1 year. and if it’s something i did(like drop it in a pool) its $50 for 1 year. you can get apple care plus and extend that service to 2 years for $100.

I dont have insurance, there are too many loopholes for the cell companies to get out of replacing a phone. I keep my old phones incase of an emergency. Ive had good luck so far, i got a nice case and screen protector
