Also if you don't want to fight it yourself search for a lawyer that handles traffic tickets. For example some will charge 100-200 and try to get it written off or less of a fine and then you can also get traffic school. Some will even refund your money if they can't do anything(very few). Depends where you live but in San Diego someone charges 100 bucks and will refund you. Other places like Orange county charges 400 and wont refund you. Just depends where your at. Tickets down in Socal average 500 bucks....

Oh and wear your seat belt :)

I have written WAY MORE tickets than you have gotten!!! First the speed issue. 17 MPH over is pretty much an automatic ticket, I won't blink until drivers hit at least 15MPH over. Speed laws vary state to state and since I live in CA, mine are different than yours. Google the speed section the officer wrote. I would be interested in speed surveys and radar requirements to write tickets at certain locations highway vs City streets. There is a difference. Unless the survey is off, the radar is off, or the training is off....good chance you will lose.

The seatbelt issue: wear your seatbelt.

If you got caught, you got caught! You can try to get a reduced fine by going to court and throwing yourself to the mercy of the court, or the Officer won't show up. The only downside is if you go to Court, then you can no longer go to traffic school (in CA). Bottom line: if you were going too fast without a seatbelt--pay the fine, go to traffic school, and be done with it. Slow down, wear your seatbelt....and have a nice day, sir.

You should definitely look into a defensive driving course.

I buckled it up soon as I saw lights. I had a black jacket on too idk how he saw I wasnt wearing it...

It was on a 4lane hwy that starts to get into a semi busy area I dont think anyone abides by the speed limit everyones always speeding (to an extent) Ive always driven by the rule, 9 your fine 10 your mine) but the speed limit thru there is sorta silly JMO

I'll probably pay it and suck it up and learn, although trying to get it revoked and do traffic school etc would be nice since its my 1st.

How will this effect my insurance?

Thanks wasnt expecting this many replies so quickly.

Rookie mistake. They can usually see you reach for it or if he got a front view of you driving, they are trained to look.

By the time i was 19 i was pulled/stopped 23 times! everything from seatbelts/excessive speed/reckless driving haha i learned theres only so much to do when it comes to the courts. and that driving like an idiot only makes you feel like an idiot when those cherries and berries are behind you

im 25 and only been pulled over once since i got my license back and i was on a motorcycle going 20mph over... :pout:

just take the defensive driving school and learn your lesson. it will be off you record soon enough

doesn't work at all. If I caught you speeding, I identified you the driver and know you weren't wearing your seatbelt at the time of the violation. doesn't help to put it on afterward.[IMG] just man up and say you weren't wearing your seatbelt. here in az it was around 15 bucks or so.

Turn back on your seatbelt chime. It's annoying, but I remember to wear my belt every time.

I've seen people be successful in court and I've seen people come out having to pay the ticket in full plus court fees.

The one time I've gotten a speeding violation I just paid it and moved on. Now I accept the risks if I do speed (which is very frequently) but I also keep around 5-10 over and usually no more than 5 unless someone's a bit ahead of me going just as fast if not faster.

Oh and wear your seatbelt! If you don't want to wear one, buy a motorcycle :D

If you go to court they will probably drop it to the minimum. But if they write you a ticket and drop it to the minimum during the stop I don't think you can do anything about that. Got a ticket not long ago. I actually wasn't speeding, a guy passed me in the right lane coming over a hill. By the time the cop woke up from his nap all he saw was me in the left lane. So he assumed it was me. Still got a ticket but I has a little hook up with the PD so they threw it out

Don't brag about shit like that. OP, I got my first ticket last month. Passed a cop on I-80 (he was under the limit) and pulled me over. Got a speed warning and a ticket for a blocked license plate. Only $112 and no points. Paid it and learned a lesson.

I must say, that's a bit overboard. I'm about doing my job but that's more of an ego issue than anything...

I've seen guys write tickets to people for obstructed license plate in a snowstorm... There are plenty of people doing much worse that I don't waste my time and the publics time on something so petty
