So I bought my fathers property from the estate in June 2012 in Florida, my neighbor (long time friend of the family) had a cow that he was pasturing on a section of it for the 3 years prior to my owning the property. There was never any agreement other than a hand shake between my father and him that he could use the area as long as he maintained it and maintained the fence. When I got the property told him he could keep the cow for the as long as he maintained it and maintained the fence but if I asked him to remove the cows he would. This was in Dec 2012 again nothing but a handshake.

Now yesterday I asked him to remove the 2 cows he has on the property, he refuses to do so telling me he "he's lived their for 30 years I can k*** his a** and if I wanted a enemy for a neighbor I just made one.".

I called the sheriffs dept, they spoke with him and then told me that there is nothing they can do and that I should get a lawyer which I now am doing.

    WTF is with people?

Also anyone know a inexpensive lawyer in the polk county florida?

Nothing the police can do? It's your property and his cows are trespassing.

Or have them slaughtered and offer your neighbor a steak?

they are on your property, do as you wish with them.

id either fence them in completely on my property right by my house to really piss him off, or fence them in on his property. or you can take down the fence that is on your property.

but maybe you should just go over there with a few beers and talk to the guy. let him know that you understand and you will help him move the cows because you need the land now. it would be nice to not have an enemy of a neighbor.

I agree - put the cows on his property and close off any access he has to your property with "private property/no trespassing signs.

It's your property, therefor he has no say so. Hell butcher the cattle and eas some burgers. Perhaps give him a week to move the cattle, or you will sell them.

You shouldn't have to pay for a lawyer for such a black-and-white issue. There's no way in hell that anyone will take the neighbor's side. Just kick him out

I couldn't jus feed the cows on his property and while there over eatin jus run some hot wire around his place and that could be your fence between his land and yours

Sounds like your sheriffs department sucks, or at least the ones you dealt with. Its your property, trespassing is illegal. I don't understand how this could be argued.

yep basically that's it, I really want to use that section of the property as it has the pond and now I cannot fish there since the sheriff told me that if he could claim I am interfering with his cows I can be arrested.
